So after 5 years with a Pug 206 which was sold today my wife has a new car.

2010 Focus 1.6 tdci Zetec 110BHP with DPF

Full documented SH with cambelt done, a fresh MOT as of last week

Miles are tad high at 133K being a ex fleet car but very happy with it for £1k.

Its not perfect, has few stone chips and marks on the body as per the mileage but interior is still like new.

Gave it a wash today and winter wax treatment, has the Ford Sat Nav with TomTom Maps, Bluetooth hands free and Rear privacy glass. No other optional extras though which we dont mind.

just have to remember to give it a good run on the motorway to keep the DPF in order.

I hate silver cars and diesel in general as had many of them as company cars but my god for 1k I would happily take that - incredible bargain!

Gotta love an ex-fleet car, my Mondeo is also one and like yours had the usual stone chips, I got mine with an extra 16k on it and paid a few hundred quid more at the same age but it's been utterly reliable over the last 7 years.

Got a 500 mile commute in it on Monday & not worried about it going pop. :)
 
Delete the EGR and DPF they'll only cause you issues in the long run.

Have been looking into this, got a quote.

Stage 1 @ 136bhp/310nm with DPF Delete and EGR OFF, including full diagnostic session £395

Seem reasonable?

Surely doing this would make it fail the MOT ?

Tests for diesel cars and lorries are to be tightened up to ensure vehicles have a critical exhaust filter if one had originally been fitted as standard, Roads Minister Robert Goodwill has announced.

Garages and testing stations will be required check for a diesel particulate filter (DPF) in the inspection of the exhaust system as part of the MOT test (or annual test for heavy vehicles) from February 2014.

The vehicle will automatically fail the MOT test if the filter had been fitted as standard but is found to be no longer present.

Some firms offer services to remove the filter, claiming it will improve the economy. But it is an offence to drive a vehicle that has been modified this way, as it will no longer meet the emissions standards the car achieved when it was approved for sale in the UK.

This has led to some diesel vehicle owners opting to remove the filter, which makes their car illegal for road use.

Nope as usually it's left in place with its innards removed. Mot check is just visual inspection that it is there, and a smoke test which should still be passed.

I don't agree with removing them - while not necessarily illegal, they are there for a purpose, and if your driving style isn't compatible with them, then you have bought the wrong car.

It is an offence under the Road vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Regulation 61a(3))1 to use a vehicle which has been modified in such a way that it no longer complies with the air pollutant emissions standards it was designed to meet. Removal of a DPF will almost invariably contravene these requirements, making the vehicle illegal for road use.

The potential penalties for failing to comply with Regulation 61a are fines of up to £1,000 for a car or £2,500 for a light goods vehicle.

DPF's make diesel cars much, much safer. Do not remove it. If the DPF is an issue for your driving style you've purchased the wrong car. The answer is not to simply screw everyone else over by removing something that makes a significant and very real contribution to reducing a significant amount of the nasty stuff diesels are getting an increasingly bad rep for..
 
If you remap and the delete the dpf your fuel efficiency will improve, so it pays to do it.

Sod all this talk about emissions. Your average bus (pre-Euro 5 emissions) traipsing around cities all day long is pumping out vast amounts of pollution in comparison.

If your DPF fails in the future and needs replacing it will very likely exceed the value of the car. So you're faced with writing off a perfectly usable car, that's a greater blight on the environment.

People who knowingly delete things which are designed to prevent pollution and respiratory problems are ***** of the highest order.

As someone who sees the big black clouds of soot pouring out of diesels every day, I would like to suggest that you think twice about it.
 
Above all that, it seems silly spending £400 on a cheap runaround you got for a grand.

Why is it silly? If the remap and egr/dpf removal return fuel efficiency gains of 5%, that's a £3 saving on a £60 fill up.

Plus it's kinder to the engine and could eliminate costly repairs.
