EE or Vodafone

I'll be going with one of the above as I'm a little fed up of O2.

I prefer Vodafone's roaming (I go abroad at least twice a year) however EE's UK coverage seems a lot better.

Has anyone been with both?

It'll be a business account if that makes any difference.

Get a PAYG SIM from each network and test them out where you go frequently. Asking on a forum is useless when talking about coverage.

I will say that Vodafone's customer service is dreadful (on the business plans it is better, especially on the Business Premier ones) but EE's is very good in my experience.

I was with Vodafone and changed to EE. I also tried out Three for coverage at my home and work but their speeds were much slower.

I always found Vodafone fast for 4g but EE have been quicker in all situations, by around 20% in my work location and about 125% at my home.

Fastest speed I recorded was 134/16

Sadly it looks like the max plans are only sold with handsets and I'm after SIM only. I'm with O2 till January but would move sooner for the right deal. I guess I'll keep an eye on EE's site to see if they offer them as SIM only.

What's the data like abroad? O2's is terrible as was Three's. Vodafone always seems to be good.

Vodafone are crap here but seem to be good abroad. EE the other way around, I get 180Mbps download on 4G+ in my office, it's crazy.

And to be fair EE's 500MB of data for being abroad isn't that bad. I'm just concerned that it'll be at dial up speeds like O2's and Three's. A lass I know when to NY and had 4G with Vodafone and she said it was a godsend not having to rely on wifi all the time.

disclaimer - I work for a (not UK) division of Voda.

If this is a fixed & mobile deal OneNet will probably be cheaper. If you need "business" support (e.g. the works) then Voda and O2 are best. If you need something akin to a consumer tariff (mobile only) for business then EE is probably a better shout. None of this matters if you don't have signal though - I always go with gigabit said, check with PAYG sims before you do anything :)

Voda's network is back to second in the UK according to my internal metrics i have access to. VFUK appear to be testing a new LTE-A release as I can get ~210MBit at their HQ currently, unsure when this will go live nationwide. Voda is honestly the best roaming network in the world. We have more roaming agreements than anyone (closest competitor has half our agreements). We don't use 3's capping system.

I don't need business support, just a business account so I can claim it back off my ltd company (I'm self employed).

EE for home, Vodafone for abroad. I have friends on both and neither report many signal issues where I live and where I go.

I just don't want to go to the USA or Spain again and be stuck with dial up data performance. If EE's 500MB of data is at a usable speed then I may go with them as they have better UK coverage.

EE SIMO options are terrible right now. I would wait for a decent offer to come along (which is fairly often) and then switch.

There's a 20GB one for £20 + VAT, which is less than I pay O2 at the moment for 12GB. O2 however want over £100 to cancel so I'll have to wait it seems.

Weirdly EE just doesn't work at all in our office and we had the same issue in our old office in London as well, weirdly in both offices Voda has always been perfect. As others have said make sure you test whatever network to see how it is for you.

I have always found that Voda may not have the edge on the speed front but in terms of absolute coverage they seem to do better than most.

I'm not hugely bothered by speed, as long as I can get on Facebook, forums, email etc I'm happy. Beyond a certain speed it's all a bit ridiculous anyway.

It really depends where you are. Vodafone will get you 2G in most places but then EE will get you 4G in a lot of places where Vodafone is still on GPRS...

For just a signal Vodafone is probably better (with O2 probably first) but when EE launches 800MHz, Vodafone are going to get killed.

In regards to the business thing, you can be a business customer at Vodafone and still be on a consumer tariff. You'll get the standard business (crap) support based abroad in most cases. If you go into store and say you're a sole trader or use your phone for work they can put you on a business account but with a consumer tariff. Probably possible over the phone as well.

Cheers. I don't mind the business tariff's actually but worth bearing in mind.

I don't find O2 reception that good. For example at my mum's and pretty much as I cross the welsh border it's non existent. I don't know what Vodafone is like however I know EE works very well around where she is.
