I think our Gas Meter is faulty

I notice you say 'finally' in your OP, how long did it take you to get them to change it?

About a month, after making a complaint to the Ombudsman

More importantly how much money have you had back from your supplier as your bills must have been silly high?

It's gone off to Ofgem for testing so nothing as yet. Rough calculation based on previous 4 years average usage (not taking into account general price increases), we're probably owed around £2.5k

It might not be clear enough in that video, the unit is detached from the gas, and still counting up!

Yes, I understand that. I was asking if it was doing the same thing whilst connected, but with the ECV off?

You said you had problems getting BG out to exchange it. If it was counting whilst connected, but with the ECV off, then I can't understand why you had issues getting them to swap it:

'Hello, BG? Yes. My gas meter's display is counting up despite the gas being turned off.'

'OK. We'll be out straight away to exchange it'.

Or, had you not tried that and it only came to light once it was removed?

BG can be stubborn. It took me weeks to get them to believe me that I had my electric on a credit meter, gas on pre-pay.

Yep, plus they were refusing to swap it out unless we agreed not to chase them for any credit due older than last November, despite the readings increasing by large amounts well before that.

Switching off the ECV didnt help to start with as it started to increase by large amounts intermittently. We were finally able to prove something when we'd gone on holiday with the heating/water off and the readings took a big jump.
