eSports - Not gaining comparitive traction / Too corporate?

I like it, gives them more of an identity.

Do you want to hear Ishutin stole ravage? Or Dendi stole ravage?

Would I rather hear them talk about iceiceice or Daryl Koh Pei Xiang?

I think its fine the way it is unless we're talking about Rape from Sweden. In which cast casters should just use his real name lol

I think it should go the other way, and footballers for example should be allowed to adopt tags instead of their boring real life names, would certainly make it more entertaining to watch!

Well judging by this thread, you're in fact just getting old :p

I watched a bit of an ESports competition yesterday, and it made me cringe a little. I can totally understand why some people just don't get it. Personally, I do wonder if people would take it more seriously if they used their real names or at least half sensible gamer tags... Unless they're just catering for the younger audience.

I have taken this as a personal attack and have reported it to a mod.

There are situations you don't know about in my life that make punctuation very hard for me..

Now if you will excuse me sir I will wrap myself back up in this here roll of cotton wool and climb back into my safe place.

*the worlds out to get me

It wouldn't be esports without handles, it's almost like saying we all have to use our real names whilst in game.

I'm sure OP wouldn't appreciate having to use his/her real name whilst gaming online.

Surely at some point, the use of real names will only help with credibility?

The use of numbers and letters in handles along with variations of upper and lower case does not do anything other than look stupid.

Maybe I am getting old.

You're not getting old but you are just getting grumpy.

Credibility with whom? Other gamers? Other gamers who also have nicks?

No I don't think they will ever drop them and nor do I think they should, it makes people more individual and recognisable.

My thinking was that e-sports is still in a "bubble" and for the most part, is laughed at outside of that bubble.

So yes, personally, it does need more credibility.

Can't the same be said for the commentators who wear the headsets with the microphones. The point of them in actual sport so they can hear direction through the headphones, and the microphone so the crowd isn't picked up - neither of which is a problem in a closed room with no crowd and they're talking to somebody 6 foot away from them. It just goes to make it look more amateurish and an embarrassing attempt to justify being classed as 'real sport'.

You clearly don't realise how big some Esports are... they have tournaments in stadiums with live crowds.
