My Mi Max arrived today and I absolutely love it! The screen is very good, I was worried about the resolution but it looks sharp and clean even on such a large display.
Battery life is looking fantastic and the interface works really well.

My Xiaomi Mi2S has taken on a new lease of life as a recepticle for cheap data sims - tethered by bluetooth to my other devices or set up a a wifi hotspot. I'd still be using it as my main phone, were it not for the cameras never being quite the same (focus problems) after I replaced a broken screen. I got the extended battery (3000 mAH and it lasts ages when using bluetooth tethering - 3-4 days). When bluetooth tethering it still links to Home wi-fi so I can use it as a wi-fi extender (of sorts) too.
MIUI is ideal for that kind of use. It's so customisable that you can lock pretty much everything down. The phone hardly uses any of the data itself as MIUI allows you to restrict pretty much every app and service to run on wi-fi only.
I'm not one for large phones. If there had been such a thing as a Mi4 or Mi5 mini I'd have gone for one of those instead of my Galaxy Alpha. A Redmi of some variety would have probably done the job I suppose.

Still not sure what my next phone will be. Was originally looking at £150-£200 price range which would get me a RedMi Note 3/4. Not a lot it seems in that sort of price range as I'm looking to keep costs down as I now have a mortgage and have already gone SIM only but I'm finding the urge to splash out on a OP3 quite hard and just forget the price...

It seems the Mi Mix does not support Band 20 LTE (800MHz) so that rules out 4G for O2 and GiffGaff.
I am with 3 Which uses Band 20 and Band 3 (1800MHz).
How likely will that effect me? Do the bands vary dependent on area? or do they broadcast on both?

You should be fine on 3.. i was on three until i switched to bt and had no problems when travelling around the country
Yeah I'm on 3 and 4g is fine in most built up areas unless you are in old buildings, then I find 3 is pretty poor at getting the signal indoors. I'm not sure if the 800mhz band 20 works automatically or if it only works when using their super voice app. I can't use that as its only available on most new phones supporting band 20 and selected older phones like LG G2 which I still have lying around somewhere. I find that overall though my redmi note 3 has a much better antenna than my old G2.

I like that it's the first to do many things, the resonance earpiece should be on all 2016 flagship phones as it can easily clean up the top front of a phone, and improve the bezel size in the process.
If it comes to the UK, I'd be very inclined to check one out in person.
