Will it rise again, or has the Jungle finally died?

French authorities have declared the Calais asylum seeker camp known as the "Jungle" empty, after fires set by departing migrants and refugees accelerated plans to evacuate the burgeoning slum.

Asylum seekers are being moved to reception centres around France.

"There are no more migrants in the camp," said Fabienne Buccio, a local official in the camp.

"Our mission has been fulfilled."

Some asylum seekers were seen milling around despite the announcement, but authorities said they would stop processing people by Wednesday evening (local time).

Earlier in the day, large portions of the makeshift camp went up in flames as authorities proceeded to clear the camp after starting the operation on Monday.

Riot police were spread out and fire trucks moved in to put out some of the fires, which sent towering plumes of smoke into the sky.

Something similar will happen again. There's no way they'd choose to live in such a place if they were happy to settle in France.

Unless I'm mistaken it's not that France wouldn't take them it's that they were set on entering the UK.

Good riddance but like the Terminator they'll be back as dreams about gold paved streets across the water will not end for many of them.

About bloody time too. Now the French authorities just need to police it properly. The moment they see any parasites starting to organise and set up another camp they need to move in and take it down instantly. Don't let them get settled.

Its good that they are been relocated to a more humane place.

But like mentioned, give it a few days they will start another camp somewhere because they dont want to stay in France,All they want to do is come to the UK and sponge of us hard earning tax payers.

They could have easily settled in France or other country's,But nope they have to come to the UK because,Well were stupid.

pack it up

On topic, I'm glad it's been taken down but where are all these refugees going? They don't just disappear, they must have been taken somewhere. I suspect this is simply going from "we must take them all, all at once" to "ok guys, we need to sneak them in under the radar so the Daily Fail doesn't pick up on it".

I dunno. I'm very sceptical about it all.

I heard that ~4500 migrants had been processed by the French authorities. I also heard that there were ~9000 migrants in total in the jungle, so the question I have is what's happened to the other ~4500?

Edit: made my numbers add up.

Solid maths. You should be in charge of this stuff.

Far from me to take Scorza's side (I vehemently disagree with most of what he says), but have you actually put a bit of thought in to his comment, or simply gone "scorza wrong lol, he stupd lol, must point it out lol"?

Good maths my man, a large amount has been transferred to uk, the so called "teenagers" no? Or so I've read online a while ago. I'm not too fussed tho, I agree, soon we'll have another camp.

If it was a subtle reference to the dodgy immigration numbers, then hats off.

Well the obvious conclusion is to not let these kind of camps be built in future.

With the euro as it is its probably better for them to stay in France now.
But alas they must hate Britain so passionately:/
