Ok, bit of an unusual one here. Mate of mine is a new artist and has got a buyer for a piece of his art. Buyer wants a UK art sales agreement but my friend hasn't a clue where to start.

Does anyone in here have any knowledge/experience of this? Google is failing me.

To be fair it's a more useful response than most in GD. A bit more reading and clicking on that site and you'll find this: http://www.artquest.org.uk/artlaw-article/selling-is-easy-4/

I think that contains what you're after.

Agreed.

I did see that article but its copyrighted 1977 and having looked into it, those articles are from a column that ran from 1976 onward. There are a lot more laws regarding the sale of goods in general these days.

Its a very niche question and i would be surprised if there are many active artists with experience in selling on the forum, but its always worth a try.

I work in at a creative arts university, I'll see if I can find the head of fine arts they probably will be able to help out with some info.

While it's in dollars there does appear to be a multitude of contract templates available to your friend to use (link below as an example). He just needs to use some common sense in picking one that he agrees to. While the previous article is copyright 1977 people have been selling art for hundreds of years and it does highlight some of the key pitfalls in doing so. For example, does your friend mind being liable for deterioration? I imagine not.
