If so have you by any chance used the top port as a inlet??

I have the adapter to change from M20 to G1/4 but whats baffeling me is how the hell do I fill the res??

some other models have two ports at the top but this only has one. So if I hard tube up the port how to i get the liquid in? Magic?

Grab a Y-split/T-split adaptor and wang it in the top of the res - one of these (or similar):

And grab a ball-valve:

Then you've got you loop coming into the splitter at the top with a closed ball-valve for filling/burping the loop (flexy tubing fitting, flexy tube and a funnel to fill the loop on the ball valve, pour in water and then close). Haven't checked the sizes for the above, and it's a tad inelegant, but it'd work.

Or find a t-tube fitting you can put on the hardline tubing going into the top of the res. They're a pita to bleed though are top fill res's with only a single hole.

I do have a ball valve and a spare 3 way splitter that i was going to put at the bottom of the loop to drain...

I may just use the bottom ports.. as you say will be a pain in the bottom to bleed the air out..

It's a pain in the bottom anyway. I have the 170 and the top of the light tube in it is only a few mm from the port so you need to be slow when you're filling.

I'd just use the ports on the pump.

100%. its a nice looking res, especially when you add the better D5 tension ring but the top inlet was very badly designed.
