Apple to Introduce New Macs at October 27 Event

Thanks for mentioning this, I wasn't aware of it, it looks so much like a black Macbook I'd be surprised if Apple don't sue them at some point...!

I was going to get either a MBP if pricing was OK, or if not then a Macbook or Lenovo Yoga 910 (once released), but with the increase in base price on the Macbook and pitiful specs in comparison, I think the Razer Blade Stealth is likely to be the winner - I want to look into warranty though as I'm not sure what the situation is with Razer in the UK.

Yeah I'm curious about the warranty as well.

It does make you think when you realise that for the same price as a near top spec 15" MBP you can get a Razor Blade Pro. I know you don't get MacOS, but is it really worth the difference in hardware? For me at least I don't think so. While I've never really considered gaming on a laptop, it does now look like a real option.

I've found my Windows desktop taking an ever larger share of the PC usage over the past few years, to the point where my MBP is used only for sofa based web browsing where I need something bigger than the iPad. All the Mac only software I used to use is now defunct and replaced by programs that I can also run on Windows.

It's really a shame, as I do want to want a new MBP, I just don't.

Thats exactly my point, a 1 series costs more than the equivalent Focus, a Galaxy S7 costs more than the equivalent Oneplus.

And somewhere along the line there are nicer bits to the more expensive one but it's hard to quantify.. hence.. nicer things cost more money.

You should be comparing a BMW to Mercedes with the Merc costing 5k less with better components.

I'm not comparing a BMW to a Morris Minor.

Edit - For the record I was actually comparing the macbook with the exact laptop above.

Ah it didn't take long for the ridiculous comparisons to begin this time! :D (in regard to the MBP to the Razer whatever)

I'm not sure why it's a ridiculous comparison?

OSX>Windows is the only thing you can't compare between the 2 really.

Because one is designed to be a gaming laptop and the other one...well, isn't?

One is designed to be very portable. The other is supposed to be a desktop replacement.

"Designed to be a gaming laptop" - this just means it's marketed differently.

They are both equally as powerful so for "pros" they are directly comparable.

The Razer blade is also smaller than last years 15" rMBP so it's also pretty portable (don't know how it compares to the 2016 rMBP).

I can't see any negatives to having a "desktop replacement" if it's equally as portable as something that's not?

Razer blade is designed to be ultra portable too, hence its 4.25lb, the gigabyte aero 14 crushes the new macbook in battery life and GPU power and that is only 3.9lb.

Desktop replacement laptop's are mostly huge and last an hour at best on battery, but macbook is now co-existing with ultraportable powerhouses only since the last year or so.

I apologise on the portable comment. I had just read a different article about a Razer Blade with a 17" screen. I thought this was the same :D - wooops! My bad!

Its still a terrible comparison, the Razer will have awful resale value, it'll drop like a stone, Razer also don't have any UK retail points/service points etc etc.. I'm not disputing there's a big premium, probably too big but there are solid reasons why there's a premium.

1. How do you know this?
2. Do you normally base your purchases on resale value?

I buy a computer because I need to use a computer, not for how much it will be worth in 3-5 years time.

Apples support is second to none, no other computer company comes close at the moment. For me it's not enough to warrant the extra £700 + applecare.

I love my rMBP and tbh I don't really need to upgrade but like lots of others on here I have the itch. I would have probably bought the 2016 15" top spec model if it was somewhere between 2k-2.2k but I kind of feel like Apple are just seeing what they can get away with while still charging for the luxury.

I also think going with AMD polaris over Nvidia is a mistake.

Resale is really the main advantage. If I was getting anything expect a mac I would go with Amazon which has amazing CS and replacements are very simple.

I personally won't get anything that doesn't natively run OSX but its getting harder and harder. The Razer blade has a screen with more pixel, includes touch, a much faster GPU for a decent chunk cheaper. I instant brought a mac 3 years ago right after the event, and expected the same thing last night but what they showed was at best meh, nothing that exciting expect the type-C ports for me and then the price increase was huge.

It helps as you can sell it too offset the next purchase.
