Apple to Introduce New Macs at October 27 Event

Apple user for 25 years. Looking for ultra portable. Have top spec 2013 MBP.

Just bought a surface,, 60% cheaper, better specs.

Didn't buy a new iPhone this year. Is my 25 year love for them over...possibly.

Just seen the glowing apple logo is gone from the new MacBooks, what on earth? That's part of the brands identity, Apple really are losing the plot with these decisions...

Remember I've bought one of these new laptops before anyone gets their pants in a twist about that comment

The logo on macbooks has always been a pain in the backside. In sunlight the light shines through it and you end up seeing the logo on the screen. The new one is better in that regard.

You can compare sausages to motorbikes, doesn't mean it's a useful comparison :D

Yet you're talking about two Operating Systems which do largely the same thing at the end of the day.

If your point was someone who only wants to live in one environment isn't interested in another fair enough but if you're saying they're completely different in practical terms then no that's just stupid.

A surface pro or a surface book? My other half was given a surface pro by work and it's a joke, the fans are on even with 1 non video chrome tab open, it sounds like a hair dryer half the time, the keyboard sounds like you're typing on cardboard (the proper type cover) and it's ergonomically flawed as a..... laptop.

Ridiculous machine with a useless tablet mode.

Surface book however.. lovely. Not cheap.

My point is you can't just compare stats on a sheet of paper to say X is better than Y, there's much more to it than that.

Anyway, it's not worth trying to debate as everyone ends up going round in circles. I'll buy a MBP and get back in my box.

Ignoring all the discussion about the price being to high and Razer is better etc.

The current notebook line up is just confusing.

We now have:

12"
2016 Macbook - ultra portable with low power CPU from £1,249

13"
2015 Macbook Air - cheaper ultra portable with an old slow CPU(last updated 600 days ago) from £949 This computer needs to go or be updated/merged with the Macbook.

2015 Macbook Pro with 2.7 Ghz, 8gb, 128gb SSD from £1,249 Having this model in the range is confusing with the below.

2016 Macbook Pro non touch bar, 2.0Ghz, 8GB, 256GB SSD, its slightly smaller than the 2015, has less ports and is SLOWER. From £1,449 This model makes no sense with the above.

2016 Macbook Pro Touchbar, 2.9Ghz, 8gb, 256Gb SSD. From £1749 Top of the line model, expensive but makes sense.

15"

2015 2.2 Ghz, 16Gb, 256GB SSD. From £1,899, expensive for that you get here.

2016 Touch Bar 2.6Ghz, 16gb, 256SSD, GPU, from £2,349

It used to be so much more simple a few years ago with clear separation between lines and target market and all tiers had had the same generation hardware, the price points are irreverent:

Thin and Light from £750 (maximum portability)
Tier 1
Tier 2

Macbook from £900 (regular consumers)
Tier 1
Tier 2

Macbook Pro from £1100 (power users)
13"
Tier 1
Tier 2
Tier 3

15"
Tier 1
Tier 2
Tier 3

Apparently these new laptops don't even come with an extended cable :(. The way my tablet is currently setup the normal cable doesn't actually reach, it was such an awesome feature as I could have it setup different at my desk and in my bedroom.

Is the cable not separate from the brick?

Very underwhelming, just like the iPhone 7 (which I bought, and have realised it is barely any different to the 6s). The prices are ridiculous, Brexit or whatever, versus other brands.

Same. In my office I need to use the extended power cable.

Surface isn't going to cut it for me, I use a Mac for OS X.

Just found out I get 6% corporate discount with Apple, brings the price down but still not near what I was willing to pay (£1500) :(
