as it stands I have an Acer s277hk 4k 60hz monitor as with 980 Ti sli cranking the settings on some games to absolute max can't sustain 60fps, I'm really thinking about in the new year to get myself an Acer x34a Monitor as I was looking at 1440p 165hz monitors but after playing on some of the ultrawide the viewing angle is perfect and scaling is better as I've tried custom resolutions and 3440 x 1440 my gpus scale at 99% each whilst at 4k they're always in the 80% range. and the fact I'll get 100hz with Gsync. thoughts on ultrawide monitors in general? Thank you :)

This is why I bought a 2nd 980ti mate, using a Rog Swift 1440p 165hertz now and every game maxes with ease (apart from mafia 3) which is hardly a game.

seriously thinking of selling my 4k monitor and untill we have a gpu that we can sli and push 100+fps at 4k will be when I get another one 4k is lovely like, though I don't have 2 980 Tis to play a game at sub 60fps in some games maxed out much rather 1440p 120+ FPS :P

I think playing at 1440p 165hertz is the sweet spot for gaming at the moment, 144hz is great too. I wouldn't go for 4k myself but that is down to the 60hertz and personal choice.

Personally, I'm actually looking to move from 144hz back to 60hz just so I can go either 4k or pseudo-4k-ultrawide. Only thing is I kinda like the 24'' more than the other sizes, so it's kinda awkward for ultrawide, but still works for 4K (and they even have freesync too!).

I have a 980ti with a x34 and it does quite well with one with 2 you should be completely fine I get around 70-90 on bf1 maxed out.

100hz is great and tbh I couldn't go back to anything smaller than a 34 now 27 and such are just too small imo

I have the setup you will end up with if you buy the X34a, and I think it's fantastic. One caveat, I have a 40 lane CPU and I believe it gives SLI an edge. However, you've tried the performance with DSR I presume? If so, then you know how it will be.

My next move will be 4k Ultrawide@100hz whenever it becomes viable. That's how much I rate Ultrawide, I just couldn't go back to 16:9. And, it's not just about gaming... I use the screen like a dual monitor setup when working on the desktop.

I wouldnt fancy playing 4k without gsync, to keep 60 fps in some games you have to drop the settings really low or downscale making 4k a bit pointless.

If your waiting till next year anyway you might get lucky and some new panels might come out giving you more options. I think the x34's 100hz is probably good enough for 980tisli though as youll probably only get around the 100 fps range at 1440p ultrawide with ultra settings in the more demanding games.

edit: I would save up and buy a proper x34 if ya wanna go ultra wide. I tried one of them xr34s, theyre ok but your not gaining the lag reduction from using gsync, your dropping resolution and your only gaining 15hz/fps rather than 40. I was quite dissapointed going from a 1440p 27" to one of them as i felt all i had gained was a slightly wider monitor.

There are high refresh rate G sync 4K panels available, but to really get a screaming framerate on one of those you should be running 1080 SLI which is not a cheap proposition (nor are the monitors).

Get a Gtx 1080 I had a 980ti and it was not enough grunt...

Sli sucks

I even miss my Ti's on occasion. Would have quite easily kept me going in SLI until volta. They did really well in SLI, leaving a single 1080 for dust and what 20% behind on games that didn't?

In order to match it in the vast majority of games, OP would need a decent overclocked TXP.

Regards to OP id go 21:9 3440 x 1440. I've had 144hz,165hz and while I do like the faster refresh rate over 100hz. 100hz-144hz is not a big deal. 21:9 is lovely though. Going back to my old swift feels like piece of the screen is missing, really not nice to use anymore. Dont think i could go back to 16:9 comfortably.

I'd go 3440x1440 100hz if you have the cash. Far superior panel.

He already has two 980ti.

When sli works...

Misread the OP

The x34 is a great monitor and Superwide 2k is the sweet spot imo
