I am trying to decide whether I should go to a 1080p 144hz screen or a 1440p 60hz screen for similar money.

Currently I am using a gtx 970 and I am quite happy with the performance at 1080p, but i cant help but feel 1080p is now obsolete and that investing in 1440p would be better, however I'm a little worried 1440p might be pushing my 970 it too far?

Hmmm....I got myself one of these about three weeks ago

B-Grade ..yes...but its just like it's brand new :)

I have the monitor set @1920 x1080....but in game i have things set @2560 x1440....and when i first got it I was using a 980 G1 .

I would be all over that if I were you OP :) Obviously there is a risk with B Grade, but I also got my Dell S2716DG from here as B Grade and it was perfect.

Sadly it lacks a hdmi port, which is important as I will be using my monitor for the ps4 from time to time as well. :(

Edit: Is the Dell S2716DG worth considering? I hear the gamma makes the blacks appear a bit grey. Also tempted to go with the Dell U2715H.

ahh right , yeah it does, shame though its a lovely monitor .

and i suppose the dell is worth a look...and any colour issues you could sort out using the Nvidia control panel ?

Maybe save up a bit more £ and go for a 1440p that does 144hz, if you play FPS games (or racing) then high hz is a must. 1080p is good but 1440p is just so much better especially if getting a large screen

I recently got the PG279Q and omg, would never want to go back to 1080p now :( its expensive but worth it imho

gl hf!

I think 1440p is too much for you current card in the latest games, but anything older will generally be fine

Its ultimately up to you to decide.
Personally I'd prefer high refresh and 1080p. 1440p is not much visually better, at least for games (desktop is other story).

To get significantly noticeable improvement in detail/crispness, you need 4K - but its still hard to drive it to good performance with reasonable modern hardware.

27" 1080p to 1440p was a really big jump in picture quality for me in games. If you can manage to stretch your budget to 144hz then all the better.

cant agree, although it depends on your screen size, @27" it was a big difference for me in games, desktop everywhere.

Agreed. 1080P is twice the pixels of 720. 1440p is double the pixels of 1080. It's a lot of pixels. Almost four million. Sure, it's not eight million, but it's more than 1080p, and it is nice and sexy and crispy and beautiful.

how do 1080p videos look on a 1440p monitor (when viewed full screen)?
what resolution does youtube default to if you're watching a video that is 4k?

I currently have a GTX 970 and a 1440p monitor - I always play on 1440p and rarely have games dip below 50-60fps. I'll eventually upgrade to a 980ti, but I'm not in any hurry as I've not had a game I can't play on it yet at full res.

they look great, no idea about what it auto selects as my internet sucks far too much for 4k streaming

1080P videos look great - And dependant on how the video has been uploaded, sometimes it will give you the option to play in 1440p and 4K.
