Apple to Introduce New Macs at October 27 Event

I have a powerful iMac and I am quite tempted by the non touch bar one. The only issue is that its not as powerful as the touch bar one and only £300 less. But then they are all super expensive.

Bloody apple

Had a quick look in a store yesterday and I love the new form factor. I've decided I won't be getting any of the models though. My 13" Late 2013 rMBP can survive another year or so.

I tend to avoid Rev A models after a redesign, just remembering the issues that there were with the 2012 rMBP and 2006 MBP....

I don't think the change to ports will be a big issue in a year or so. Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) is a bigger deal than the previous Thunderbolt designs due to it's universal form factor, we should hopefully see it become the default for most things.

The screen on the macbook air is horrible compared to the new rMBP screens and the new MBP screens are much better than those. Low res, poor colours and viewing angle change makes it worse.

I have a 15" rMBP and a MacBook Air. I find myself using the Air more frequently around the house. The form is superb.

In the context that was mentioned: a compliment to a powerful iMac for web bowsing and watching videos (which has the terminal tool) I think the MacBook Air is a better match.

As I've said I really don't like the screen on the Air, so I think I'll go for the MacBook.

I have a Macbook Air and its the best laptop ive ever owned.
The size, weight, portability, battery life ,ports are perfect for me, but then i only use it for general web browsing, email, youtube etc nothing too taxing.

Horses for courses :)

I prefer having a Core i5 / i7, rather than that Core M rubbish.

Me too but I still prefer the form factor of the Macbook. I had a play around with the new pro at lunchtime and I wasn't impressed with the shape or weight, this is why I'm waiting to see what happens when the Macbook is refreshed. If I'm still not impressed then I'll get the blade stealth.

Is it heavy?

End of the day it's something I'm going to be using on my lap, would I really notice it 'only' having a Core M?

That's why i rule out the surface. My laptop tends to spend 95% of the time on my lap (crazy i know) or on the arm of the couch. The surface just can't do that. The surface book is quite a nice looking machine though.

The Core-M is about as as fast as the i5 1.6 used in the 2011 macbook air, so still plenty capable for watching video, browsing the web and even for lightroom. You're never going to edit a video on it though.

Yes. I read in reviews that the display can wobble on the hinges and if I had it on my lap that would annoy me a lot - I've sadly ruled that out too. Blade Stealth or next gen Macbook are my choices.

My ideal laptop would be an Air with a retina display and shrunken form factor but that's wishful thinking I suppose.

I'm ruling out the Surface as I want macOS. The more I use Windows 10 the more I go off it.

TBH, the most contact it's ever going to get to video editing would be to copy videos off my Go Pro's memory card onto the HDD. Then transferred onto my iMac when I get home which is plenty powerful enough. I don't need to do it on the move, so I think it would be worth saving some money.

Might look at the price differences and some specs though.

Looks like I'm better off getting a 13" Pro, due to VAT savings on purchases over £2000.

MacBook with m5, 8GB of RAM, 512 GB SSD would work out at £1455.60 with discount.
13" Pro with 2.9GHz i5, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD would work out at £1601.28 with discount.

The £150 difference for me gets a substantial spec increase.

Current order was for a 15" that comes in at around £2185 without that VAT, I think I'm stupid if I go through with the order as the 15" is not exactly portable and the power it has would be a waste. Unless I sold the iMac...

I've had my surface a few days and have no problem on my lap or chair etc.

Oh and i got the surface [being a long term MBP] user as I wanted a decent ultra portable and felt MS have the edge on both price and direction at the moment.

I too wish they did that until of scrapping the range, however no wobble in screen anymore than a laptop.
