Pedestrians at night

Yea you can't just step out in to the road and expect people to stop, even on a crossing. They might not be able to stop in time, or have seen you.

At least some people are switched on. Saw a young teenage lad dressed up in a black robe last night on the way home, but he had the foresight to wear white and red lights on a headband. Good lad.

Not as annoying as stopping to let a woman cross, but she had no intention of crossing - just stood there playing with her phone at the edge of the crossing.

Couldn't agree more that some peds and cyclists seem to believe they're trying to take part in this years Darwin awards.

Still, worst I had was probably in Malaysia a few years ago. Had been lent a Toyota pick up (don't ask me which). Was on a dual carriageway with a 80kmph limit, in the right hand land, probably doing about 50kph (accelerating as I left the town I was in), only to find a cyclist just to the right of my lane, no lights, nothing. Missed him by inches as I had such a short timespan between spotting and being able to do something about. Probably the closest I've ever come to hitting anyone whilst driving.

I live in a cul-de-sac type thing off a main road and there is a zebra crossing 5 metres from the exit/entrance to the cul-de-sac

On the opposite side of the road, to the left and right of the crossing, are parking bays, and at night if you are crossing from that side, there's no easy way for a driver to see past the parked cars to check if somebody is waiting to cross until their car is basically on the crossing.

I have a dog and regularly walk across it but it's one of the more dangerous crossings I've ever used. I'll try and take some photos later.

Yet this morning I saw a cyclist doing just that in fog...

Haven't actually seen any cyclists yet on my way to work who have no lighting at all - but still a few who think that flashing super bright forward facing lights, usually angled so they shine right in a drivers eye in the worst way are a good idea. I can understand a rear facing red flashing as it makes them more noticeable than a solid red.

Ask the council (via their report a problem webpage or the fixmystreet website) to improve the lighting on the crossing. Some of them around here are badly lit too.
They ought to have spotlights where people wait to cross and across the crossing.
Conversely some zebra crossing poles are so brightly lit that they mask/obscure the person stood behind them.
