MLB: the Show 16

Do you guys all follow the sport or was the game your main introduction?

Been watching it for 10+ years and a major LA Dodgers fan. Haven't been to any games, but i've had an MLB.tv sub for the past 4-5 years and watch as many games as a i can.

If anyone wants a game hit me up on PSN @ dakaiez.

I mainly play Diamond Dynasty which i have a very very good team on but i don't mind playing proper team games. :)

I was looking at that Diamond Dynasty but I literally know nothing about building a good team and which players are bad or good.

I think I'll have a look at the 'conquest' mode.

Think of it like FUT - Fifa Ultimate Team you can buy packs or play and earn stubs/rewards etc. You can also do Conquest which nets you players for DD.

It's hard to figure it out if you don't watch regularly but it's good fun. It goes bronze to silver to gold to diamond with bronze being the lowest. Games are ranked and you gain rewards when you finish, it's a good fun game mode, it's what most people play as well.

I bought it in 2014 and enjoyed it a lot.

Haven't bothered since cause I've got no one to play with :(

Always around for a game if i'm not busy plus the online system is pretty good fun. :)

I've just played that Cubs v Indians game 9 and won 11-0. I was actually 10-0 up after the first innings. I must be doing something right. Either that or the game setting was on very easy.

What's the best game mode for single player (vs computer)? I tried the career game but it obviously only lets you bat and field with a single player.

Will add you blitzben85. Others, feel free to add me - fozzybear1902 (PSN)

I changed my skill level and my pitching was automatically changed to 'meter' rather than the left analogue stick. Never again.

Still having fun. It's a good 'pick up and play' game.

Metered isn't bad as a beginner, although Analogue the one that uses the right stick is better overall. It's more forgiving if you miss and more accurate than metered when you don't. Most of the top players use it because of this, it took me a while to switch over but i pitch much better now.

Ended up picking the game up in the sales, love it, although I get too twitchy when batting, need to stop swinging at everything. Had to play game 7 last night, Cubs won 4-3 and 8-7 IRL.

If anyone fancies a game, feel free to add me - blitzben85

Good game earlier, been playing since 2012 and played a lot of ranked this year so don't feel bad.

You need to work the count more when pitching, although there is a strike zone you don't always have to pitch in it but can around it to make them swing. Like i did with you. Best count you can get it to is 3-2 which is 3 balls and 2 strikes, next pitch can be either Strike which is out, Ball which walk, hit and catch or get on base or fouled until one of them 4 happens.

Likewise with hitting, sit and wait for a good pitch, it's how i got so many hits, wait until something looks good and crush it. Doesn't have to be a home run but can be a base hit single, doube or triple etc.

I saw you were using Directional hitting with guess pitch, it's better going to Zone with retical hitting, gives you more freedom as long as you get the dot in the middle close to the ball when hitting you'll hit more regularly. Pitching i take it your using Metered? If so try analog takes a little while to get used to it but once you do it has much more control.

Any tips on hitting the ball in the right direction?

Am I right in saying you set the hit direction just before the pitcher is about to pitch? I realise timing is everything but the ball never seems to go in the direction I've set.

Also, what is a pinch hitter and how would I know which of my team are suitable?

Don't use directional hitting and guess pitching. If you switch to zone hitting, you'll have more control over where you hit it and how under/above you hit it for base hits, home runs etc. Setting the hit direction is only a guess pitch, if it doesn't hit where you think it will go then you'll get a reduced chance of hitting where it is going kind of a roll the dice situation.

Pinch hitter is someone you bring on to hit for someone else, they are normally used when the pitcher is up to hit in a round where the next one they are getting replaced by the bullpen. It's to allow someone who can hit better to come in, you can also bring pinch hitters on for other players say your guy on the field hit's lefties better than righties and it's a right handed pitcher you can bring on a PH for him that hit's lefties better.

When your bringing on a pinch hitter, main things you really want are high contact against the pitcher your facing. So if they are a lefty bring on someone with weak contact against lefties your at a severe disadvantage.

Cheers for that.

I've changed my batting to right analogue stick but am now confused on how to get a power shot. Previously 'O' was a normal shot and 'square' was a power shot. What is the 'flick' option for?

I've been having some good games against the Chicago Cubs (CPU). They always seem to come good in the final few innings.

Cheers, when I'm next on I'll have a look at my settings and adjust accordingly. You were e first person I've played against online, rest of my games have been against the cpu where I have managed to get walks etc... but I now know that a human player is more aggressive :D

To be honest towards the end I pretty much gave up and was just swinging at everything just so you couldn't get that no hitter (sorry) lol.

I've been trying it in the practice session and I can barely hit the damn ball. Yes, I'm using zone and I'm either too early or too late. Though the roles have now reveresed for me. Crap at batting and putting a lot of the in game players out for pitching. I used to find pitching quite hard getting consistent throws.

Flick is the stick stationary and you flick it forward. I'm using the option hold the stick back then the pitcher throws and you flick forward. Most times I'm getting really crap hits. Flying right above me or behind me as well as it shooting to the next base to put me out.

You want Zone and buttons so you aim the reticle and then swing with x, square, circle etc based on how you want to hit.

Liking my DD squad now, few more changes and i'm done i think.

I've tried it but there's just too much going on. By the time I've aimed the reticle, the ball is well past me.

I don't really have a problem hitting the ball on other settings. It just doesn't always go in the right direction. Most of the time it says my swing was too early.

It's hard to begin with, it's the best hitting option though. Anyone that plays at a high level uses it, offers best use of hitting and the direction you want it to be hit.
