Howdy,

Bit of a random question but has anyone used the modules without actually adding the watercooling top block?

Just curious as I don't really think I need to add them to the loop but I would quite like the Nickel heat sinks to match my GPU backplates... any links or thoughts on how they might do just working as a simple heatsink in place of the stock (corsair)?

Cheers

I have these and it should work, not sure how effective it would be without the top block though - probably the same as a normal RAM heatsink.

Another thing to note is that they are a bit loose on ddr4 modules as they tend to only have the memory chips on one side so you have to double up the thermal pads on the blank side in order to stop the heatsink sliding off.

Just keep in mind that you will invalidate your warranty on the ram and it is not unheard of for ram chips to come away with the heatsinks making the stick useless.

Yep, i'm willing to take the risk to be honest...

Very true, however you can just get RAM without factory heatsinks.

I already have RAM, if I break it i'll buy more pretty much - thanks for the tip on the pads though thats good to know. Are they 1mm pads or the 0.5? Edit: Thinking about it mine are 8GB modules so i might have front and back... 4 x 8GB.

Slightly off topic but has anyone actually ever water cooled their RAM?

About the only item still giving out heating into my case is my DDR4 Ram which gets a little toasty on a sustained long day of gaming...

But tempted to say its over kill....

Does anyone have the Nickel covers and happen to have a picture of them without the block on from the top?

Cheers!

Yes you could use the modules without the block on top. They will act like a normal passive ram heatspreader

Why thank you, i've received two and two more coming tomorrow... Running out of EK products to buy, you could always send me them free instead ;):D - is there a Nickel 4x top peice coming, can only see the copper clear one.

Stripped down clean RAM was pretty simple to do, bit of thermal paste on each to stick the pad and also improve the thermal transfer. the pads come cut way to wide, it was actually spot on to cut down the middle of the strip.

Sexy shiny RAM... My EK 1080 FTW GPU backplates match this so should look pretty nice when its all together finally!
