Do AMD have a cheaper card that matches a 1070?

Looking to build a VR setup and need to upgrade my 960 2GB

I would like to max all games and use a high amount of SS, AMD have always been bang for buck, but not sure if they have something that matches 1070?

Thanks

LOL... your funny. If your serious well then no... no they dont.

I don't see why it is a funny question, AMD are very competitive in the graphics segment...

In any case OP, no sadly not yet. Next release cycle, probably. :)

AMD have yet too release what will be the 1070 and above's competition. That will come from the Vega line of cards. Currently we have last gen's high end Fiji and this gen's low and mid range Polaris cards on offer.

Out of the two I'd say buy into Polaris not Fiji even though I have Fiji myself and I'm very happy with it. Simply put I wouldn't buy a card with 4gb's or lower so for now the only card AMD have on offer is the 8gb 480 and out of the two there's no contest, If you want the most performance the 1070 is this gen's best bang for buck card so far. Titan X (Maxwell) performance for half what it cost us last gen.

Sadly not, your only option in that £400ish price bracket is the 1070, unless your prepared to wait a couple of months, if I was in your boat I would wait to see how good AMDs vega is even if it's a flop I could force NVIDIA to lower price of the 1070/80. some people won't wait as there's always something new on the horizon, but I'm happy to hold off

Statement 2 contradicts Statement 1.

actually it does not. Competitive does not have to mean "faster or as fast" as the top card from the competition. AMD has choosen a bracket to compete in which is the midrange cards and they are doing just fine there performance wise.

How does statement 2 contradict statement 1. Read again before typing away. He said competitive in gfx card segment. Just because AMD don't have a card that matches the performance of the 1070 as of yet in DX11 anyways does not mean he is wrong.

Unless in your opinion because AMD dont have cards as fast as 1070/80 then they are not competitive?

I hate to say it but if AMD don't release Vega till sumer 2017 then they are in big trouble.

Releasing cards that will likely compete with the 1080/1080Ti At a time when Nvidia are releasing the 1180?

One step forwards two steps back.

They will always be playing catch-up unless they release at similar times.

LOL AMD got nothing that matched 1070 in VR games but 1060 is slight better than Fury X in all VR titles. Nvidia owned the whole PC VR market and AMD never won a single VR game performance out of around 800 VR titles.

Just forget about AMD for now, if you want to get 1070 now for VR, better get it now before prices could go up again. AMD Vega is long time away but we never know if it will be any better or yet another disaster in VR performance to compete with 1080 Ti and Titan X Pascal since AMD cancelled consumer version of Fury Pro Duo.

Never seen some one soo happy about something like this. Go out get some fresh air bro. Its just Gfx cards lmao.

Last i read the 480 was quite good at VR and Amd advertised it at the time, Has that changed as i dont keep up with VR stuff?

Nvidia's cards are better in VR atm, by quite a bit, but don't expect to max anything with a 1070. Max-ing in general is VERY difficult to achieve, even for Titan X SLI setups.
