Hey guys! Hope you are all will and having a good weekend. I have just put together a new PC but I am having a few problems and I was wondering if you guys could help!

My specs ar as follows

PSU: Corsair TX750
Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair V Formula-X

CPU: AMD FX 9590
Graphics Card: Radeon RX480 (Sapphire Nitro)
RAM: 16GB X4 (32GB) Kingston HyperX

BIOS Version: 2-10-1208 (23/03/2015)

What happens is that when it boots up (I currently have no SSD drives attached) I gets to BIOS and for a while I can look around thr BIOS menus and then it locks up.

The fault / error code showing is 66

Thr CPU fan gets faster and faster and sounds like it is going to shake a part with each boot up. According to BIOS the temperature of the CPU was 57DegC before it locked up and I had to turn it all off.

I have tried taking thr BIOS battery out and also tried the motherboard outside of the case. All the components are being picked up by BIOS.

If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it, truly.

Thanks for your time.

Ps: sorry for any typing mistakes. I am using my phone.

Although 57 degrees is a perfectly fine operating temp, it should be closer to the 20s when you're only in the BIOS. I would suspect overheating / incorrect installation of heatsink/fan. Have you looked up the error code in your board's manual?

Hello!

The 66 Code sates "Installation of PHC Runtime Services. CPU DXE initialization is started" which I must confess, I don't fully grasp.

What cooler are you using? The 9590 with it's ridiculous tdp of 220w needs a very good cooler. Your motherboard bios also needs updating to support the 9590. You need bios version 1403 or later to support it. The latest is 2201.

To be brutally honest that is a terrible choice of cpu and motherboard for a new build. You would have been much better off with a Intel build. You could have had a i7 6700k and a Z170 motherboard for a similar price to the board and cpu that you have.

To solve your problem:

Take wildly overpriced FX9590 and Crosshair V board and DDR3 back to store

Purchase 6700K and ASUS Z170A and DDR4

Enjoy your vastly superior machine.

Seriously dude if there is ANY way you can return this junk, please do. That CPU is so so bad compared to an i7. It's just an 8320 that's overclocked out of the box. You're paying more than double for an identical overclocked CPU. There are boards for half the price of the one you got that will OC an 8320/50 nicely and you get the same perf at a much lower price.,

With what you've payed there you're nuts not to have gone with intel or at very least waited for ZEN.

AMD desktop is garbage, garbage, garbage. When ZEN comes out hopefully that will change. Until then avoid like the plague.

Oh and I hope you like gaming in a warm room because that 9590 will have your room feeling like a sauna in no time.

Not sure how I would be able to return the parts, now that I have fitted them! Yes, in all honesty I made a mistake here although I got the parts under recommendation from a friend.

If you bought them online within the last week or so (14 days on here) you should return them for a refund. Don't listen to your friend anymore, he doesn't know what he is talking about. Not only did he get you to buy a overpriced joke of a cpu he also got you to buy a ancient overpriced motherboard. It's not even one of the recently updated boards for crying out loud.

Even this i5 bundle would be a better buy:-

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £358.48
(includes shipping: £10.50)

Or there's the i7 6700k:-

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £477.48
(includes shipping: £10.50)

Don't forget you will need DDR4 for either of these. Either 8Gb:-

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £58.69
(includes shipping: £8.70)

Or 16Gb:-

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £88.69
(includes shipping: £8.70)

it could be down to two things.

Heat: That cpu needs a good cooler as a necessity. Either high-end air or an AIO with a 240 rad.

Either that or it's not stable at stock, which wouldn't surprise me. You could either return it (preferably) or feed it more volts.

I agree with the chaps above though, If you can still return it, it would be better to do so.
