PS4 Pro vs Xbox One S

Interested to know people's opinion on this.

Which is the better buy?

I was all set to get a PS4 pro then I found out that the Xbox one S plays UHD Blues. The PS4 is a faster console, but the xbox is 100£ cheaper. The Xbox uses 4k upscaling and the PS4 apparently does native 4k, however considering how much power that takes from a PC i'm assuming this isn't going to be a massive difference over Xbox.

I'm looking forward to Final Fantasy 15, which was the main reason to purchase one.

My humble opinion...

For gaming performance, PS4.
For game exclusives, Xbox One.

I've stuck with PS4 this gen as prefer higher resolution/FPS, but cannot wait to jump ship when Scorpio arrives. I prefer the Xbox exclusives, brand, customer service and ethos.

I couldn't get on with the Xbox One's interface, I've found the PS4's to be a much better experience all round.

There's a few things to consider really. If you do ever want to play physical 4K movies then the Xbox One S is the obvious choice. The Xbox One S is also cheaper, by some margin. Not to mention the epic deals that are currently coming out on them. Ah, and it's got Forxa Horizon 3, backwards compatibility and better mod support for the Bethesda offerings.

I'm a big fan of the PS4 but I'd say your best bet is the Xbox One S.

I agree with this.

How much higher res/fps are we talking? I'm not that fussy when it comes to fps, as long as its playable and smooth (which i guess is a given on consoles?)

TBH it's been so long since I had a console i'm not really sure. But assuming Xbox one S will run all it's titles smoothly?

Performance wise the Xbox is close but not quite as good as PS4 but Xbox exclusives like Forza Horizon 3 are simply amazing.

You could look at picking both consoles up used for around £200 and have the best of both worlds.

Well I can live with the occasional frame drop. So I guess it comes down to quality. Will the PS4 pro give enough quality to justify the loss of UHD blu-ray (which i will use) and the extra £100. What are your thoughts on that?

What's your source for this? Cause I've heard it will (well maybe not a patch but already shipped with the 4k options)

From Director Hajime Tabata interview from last month

Q: Will FFXV be coming to PCs? Also, what about the PS4Pro version of the game, the improvements will consist only in 4K and HDR or there’ll be modes/configurations for the player to choose how the game looks?

HT: About the PC, we’re focusing all our efforts into the console versions of the game. So we’re not looking into it right now, to be honest. Making a PC version of the game would mean we’d have to readjust a lot of stuff and concentrate solely on developing it, even though the development team has shown interest in getting a PC version out at some point.

About the PS4 Pro, it’s basically the same thing about the PC – if we wanted to take full advantage of the new hardware, that would mean putting in much effort and time to make the game look and run better… and time is something we don’t have right now, neither we had foreseen the PS4 Pro’s existence before.

That said, we can’t exclude that in the future, with some dedication and time maybe we can get a PS4 Pro version of the game that can take advantage of the ‘capabilities. But as of right now the game has maxed out the PS4 horsepower.

Interesting, seems to be conflicting information on this one.

Quote from official PlayStation blog. (And you can see the same from many other websites)

"In addition to the titles listed above, more than 45 games will be optimised for PS4 Pro by the end of the year, including Watch Dogs 2, Killing Floor 2, The Last Guardian and Final Fantasy XV, with the likes of Nioh, Resident Evil 7 Biohazard and For Honor to follow in early 2017."

Eurogamer have it listed as getting a pro-mode patch: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-11-04-ps4-pro-games-list-specs-comparison (scroll down to see the list of games)

Here's another article specifically talking about it: http://www.novacrystallis.com/2016/09/final-fantasy-xv-shown-running-on-playstation-4-pro/

Another here: http://gematsu.com/2016/09/final-fantasy-xv-support-ps4-pro-launch

But you noticed most of those articles are from September around the time SE announced FF15 was delayed till November so many automatically thought it was because of the PS4 Pro.

The Hajime Tabata interview was about 3 weeks ago so that confirms FF15 is not getting PS4 Pro support (not now anyway) which many other websites picked up on.

Do you use your PC for gaming? If so, then I don't quite get what people talking about Forza etc. have in mind. Both of the best Xbox franchises are already on PC and I suspect more will come. Dead Rising 4 is next.

If you own a gaming PC, then I can't fathom why anyone would recommend an Xbox over a PS4. Maybe I'm just out of the loop.

EDIT: Oh, UHD blues are something to consider if someone needs it. For anyone with a decent PC not needing 4k Blu-ray? PS4 easily.

If I were in OP's shoes, I'd buy a decent GPU and snatch a bog-standard PS4. That's what I've done and it's the best of both worlds.

Xbox exclusives are surely dependent on if one owns a PC or not though, as they are all on there.

Then there appears to be conflicting information from the man himself:
Final Fantasy XV will support PlayStation 4 Pro at launch, director Hajime Tabata confirmed during the game’s Active Time Report at Tokyo Game Show 2016.
Read more at http://gematsu.com/2016/09/final-fantasy-xv-support-ps4-pro-launch#l8dPFsIHU0pqHTz6.99

The game has been seen running on the Pro, so it's probably safe to say should it not be day 1 - it'd be very close.

Final Fantasy 15 isn't getting a PS4 Pro patch so you might as well get the Xbox

Thats wrong im afraid. it is getting a patch just not at launch. Its also on the list that sony themselves push out for getting pro support, most previews mention they mainly see it running on PS4 Pro and can notice it has better visuals and better FPS.
