Best value for money 1080p card

Double post alert

Just looked around on 'the bay' as im kind of in a similar position, I'm also gaming off my living 1080p room TV for now on a r9 290, and just waiting for a decently priced 60"+ 4K TV with good enough response time for gaming. I wouldn't bother getting a second hand card. The 8gb rx480 will be a better purchase due to AMDs drivers maturing and thus increase the longevity of card, that would be be my recommendation, or if your dead set on staying with NVIDIA for some reason then get the 6gb 1060, the 2nd hand prices of the 970 and 980 just aren't worth it.

I have a ATI 6950 2GB. How does the Nvidia equilviant of that period fare in games now? Witcher 3 is still playable on my system 1900x1200.

GTX 580 holding up here very , vert nice. In the other hand, nvidia is giving **** about proper DX 12 Fermi driver. I have managed to run Ashes of singuarity in DX 12 mod and so as Forza Horizon 3(this one not lasted that long since the driver is lacking many features).

The HD6950 2GB was competing with the GTX560TI and the HD6970 with the GTX570.

AFAIK,the HD6950 2GB has not done too bad due to the extra VRAM it had.

I'd say a 470 is best value if buying new. Not much in it between that an 480. Just a case of deciding if you want 4 or 8gb vram. Only real option with Nvidia is 1060 6gb. I wouldn't go with a 3gb vram card now if I were to delve in the market.

Using a 980 myself, but at 21:9 2560x1080 I can recommend the 980 for £150. It still does brilliantly at most games although my 2500k is starting to creak a little.

Gtx980 @£150 currently is an excellent 2nd hand purchase. I've put my 980's up against a 6 gig 1060 and it's close but at 1440p the 980 trumps the 1060 buy a little bit. @1080p it's neck and neck.
