PS4 Pro vs Xbox One S

Interested to know people's opinion on this.

Which is the better buy?

I was all set to get a PS4 pro then I found out that the Xbox one S plays UHD Blues. The PS4 is a faster console, but the xbox is 100£ cheaper. The Xbox uses 4k upscaling and the PS4 apparently does native 4k, however considering how much power that takes from a PC i'm assuming this isn't going to be a massive difference over Xbox.

I'm looking forward to Final Fantasy 15, which was the main reason to purchase one.

The xbox one is the cheapest 4K player on the market, that I've seen. Main selling point, well only selling point other than looking cool.

Get a One S, and add some extra cash to get the PS4 (non pro) :) Probably wouldn't be all that different in price.

Both the PS4 original and the One S have had some very good deals recently, even better if you want to pickup an Xbox non S.

Best of both worlds > PS4 pro.

I wonder what will be happening to all these games that are getting a Pro patch in this year before Scorpio. Will they be getting the same treatment on that console or will it be games released after launch that only get Scorpio upgrades.

It's a bit of a pickle as now I potentially have to hold off buying digital multi platform games on the PS4 Pro in case the Scorpio version is even better.

I think not having a UHD player is a bit of a missed opportunity personally, i'd have certainly upgraded my PS4 if it had one.

It's marketed as a 4K machine, yet cannot play UHD discs. Seemed bizarre to me when it was announced, still seems bizarre to me.

Can you show everyone where Sony actually market this device as a 4k machine???? If the device can stream 4k it's a 4k capable machine.... Cause I am struggling to find it over than the media as usual talking crap. I am a pc gamer through and through but I have a PS4 Pro, Sony has always had better exclusives for me which I why I chose the platform.

Whilst the lack of 4k player was a strange decision at the end of the day its a GAMES CONSOLE!!!!!! Sony has always said its not a media box, Xbox has said thats its intention.

The UHD player in the Xbox one s is extremely poor when compared to standalone players, it was a good why to get people to buy but not the best way to view 4k HDR.

As for the new xbox scorpio, no one knows if it will truely be 100% 4k60. it's quoted as 6 teraflops which is a "quote". Has it been seen nope? until it's seen and played on who cares, its at least a year anyway.

Sick of the childish my dads better than your dad crap. If you prefer sony's games get a Pro, if you prfere xbox games get an xbox it's that simple. If you are a graphics whore get a PC!!!!!

The Xbox One S has been out for a while now and there has been some CRAZY deals with the Xbox One S over the past month. Lets be honest, many people who have them don't even know about the UHD player (probably dont know it is either). I'm surprised listening to some of my gaming podcasts and how many of them didn't know about the UHD player. Surprisingly one person being from a popular PC hardware website. His response was "I dont have many physical discs of anything, never mind UHD discs so I dont care about that as I stream my 4K content anyway"

MS made a big shout about UHD player on its first release, now its all forgotten and died off pretty quickly. People purchased the S now because its smaller than the original console. I bet less than 10% of users with the S tried UHD player. So I can see why Sony didn't bother including one in the Pro.

Everywhere Sony themselves talk about it, they mention 4k multiple times

The problem with relying on streaming for 4k is the region's infrastructure you are talking about, majority of the world it still isnt good enough for 4k streaming reliably (I have a 100mb connection and even that stutters and caches with iplayer in hd let alone any 4k source)

So was the PS3, didnt stop Sony putting in a BR player in that (at the same stage of development for the disk as the pro is for UHD today)

If its not a media box then why are they talking about streaming at all.....

Have you tried it - what makes it poor? From a visual point of view it wont make any difference to a stand alone deck, especially if you have a decent controller.

Just to be clear I have both a ps4 and One S and more than happy with both, but wouldnt have considered the One S if the Pro had a UHD drive (which really wouldnt have put the price up that much considering Sony's buying power).

Exactly the same as me, I have both a PS4 and a One S. If the Pro had a UHD player i'd have upgraded the PS4, instead I upgraded the One.

I personally think this is completely wrong.

Given how low (comparatively) the XBox One sold - 1/2 the amount of the PS4 - I think MS will make up huge amounts comparing the One S to the Pro simply because of the UHD drive.

The Pro is being marketed as a 4k machine, but I really think Sony are banking on the PSVR add ons to really bulk up the sales, and without the UHD drive - and lets face it the size reduction really doesnt matter to consumers - there is little difference in the One to the One S so not sure how MS would even attempt to compete on sales with the Pro.

Given how cheap the One S is, there is a huge home cinema community that will lap up the One S for the UHD drive alone.

Yep, and now 4k blu rays are getting released much more regulary, at first they weren't, the best movie I found was Ghostbuster(the original), now there's dozens released.

Perfect setup if you have a 4k TV is an xbox one s and playstation pro, you'll save £400 on a 4k player which pays for the ps 4 pro.

I'm undecided. I have a ps4 and xbox, but can upgrade only one. Heard great things about the xbox one upscaler and hearing bad things about the ps pro, like skyrim actually performing worse on the pro than on a standard ps4.

Confused to be honest.

Surely if you are a home cinema enthusiast you're not going to pick a player that doesn't have Dolby Atmos and the like?
