Hi guys I need some expert advice, recently my PC stopped working. It turns on and all the fans and tower lights come on but no signal gets to the monitor and no power gets to my mouse or keyboard via the USB ports, I checked all the connections in the tower and tried to reset the bios but no luck and suspected a motherboard fault so I took it to a local repair shop for further testing. They ended up telling me they think the motherboard is faulty but they would need to replace the CPU also as they could not get a motherboard that would fit my CPU from there supplier. I thought I would check here for advice as this seems a bit strange, could I not just replace the motherboard my self to avoid buying a new CPU? Here are the specs of my tower http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03513449 any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

its a socket 1155 MoBo so their preferred supplier may not be selling them...

your only choice is to ring round to find someone who will replace the mobo for you (anyone willing to buy from ebay will be able to get one)

or let them replace the mobo and CPU but get the old CPU back and sell it

Personally I'd look at getting a mobo for £40 - £50, charg you £130 (with a years warranty) for the job and use acronis (assuming the old windows does not boot) to move the old windows to the new mobo.. you might end up with some special HP buttons / ports not working if its not a HP board

The problem is that socket 1155 is long dead so you are limited to the motherboards you can pick up second hand. Some retailers may still have stock of H61 boards but they will be budget boards at usually inflated prices. You will be lucky to find a Z75 motherboard like your though if you are lucky a identical board may pop up on ebay.
