Well you must have been one of the very few to have issues.

Division ran great on release day (as did the beta but to a lesser extent) for myself and the majority of others, servers were iffy on release day (like most big games, which require a server connection), but performance (as long as you didn't enable nvidias gimpwork settings for the shadows) and stability was superb for myself and the 10+ others that were on discord with me on release day. In fact, I am pretty sure that a vast majority of people were slating the game before even released (including myself) expecting another watch dogs in terms of gimped graphics and awful performance but needless to say that didn't happen (well graphics were slightly gimped from the e3 trailer but nowhere to the same extent as watch dogs) and I think it is safe to say the game was a pretty big success on here considering it has over 500 pages of posts spread across 2 threads.

Yes, as I already said, cheaters was a massive issue to the point where myself and the rest that I played with stopped playing completely, but they addressed that after a month or 2 later.

One of the few to have issues? Er, slight contradiction considering one of the the main issues i'm referring to stopped you playing.

How about the ridiculous exploits? People finishing the incursion solo, warping through walls to grind missions etc etc. Or how about the backpack bug that locked people out of the game? Or how about the guns not reloading properly? Armour that gave the exact opposite of what it was supposed to? (10% DPS buff, instead of 10% increased damage taken). Or how about the double revive glitch? The list goes on, I could be here all night. lol @ one of the few to have issues, that is genuinely laughable.

The game was a mess on release, you only have to google 'Division bugs' to read multiple articles about how buggy the game was.

Lol have a read through the thread yourself to see what was what:

The majority of posts that I can see there, are praising how good the game is visually, performance and gameplay with the main complaints being about server errors, again, like what happens with every big game requiring servers...

Ok then so is bf 3, 4 and cs go etc. **** because those games have an incredibly high amount of cheaters as well...

Either way, you didn't have to play in the dark zone and despite the initial cheating situation, it didn't change the fact that for myself and the thousands of other players thoroughly enjoyed the single player/coop aspect and still do.

Oh so we are now considering some glitches that people went 'out of their way' to find/abuse to be reasons for a game being ****? Lol.... I got news for you, you can find silly bugs like going through walls etc. in the majority of games...

Yes, I won't disagree, there were some annoying bugs like the backpack locking people out of the game, again though, read through the thread above and you see very few who had that issue.

Aside from the cheaters, the only bug that really ****ed myself off and most others that I played with was the stats being messed up but again it didn't get in the way of enjoyment for us.

All the above are small annoying niggles unlike most of the other games released this year which either crash non stop or perform like absolute **** for mediocre graphics.

Again, you can go looking through that thread and you will see the vast majority having a blast with the game and only a handful or 2 posting any 'serious' issues.

Oh and are we talking about the reloading animation glitch? If so LOL, that really is grasping at straws :D I hope you never played bf 3/4 then!

Division fans: defensive.

Personally, not played any 2016 games. Pleased to see love for Inside (loved LIMBO), and interesting that not many mentions for Hitman (generally regarded as miles better than expected)

The Division for me. I am only really playing that and Elite Dangerous and those two are where my time gets put above all my other games. Doom got a good look but didn't hold me for some odd reason and worthwhile mentions go to Inside and Dreamfall Chapters.

Edit:

I never get why people disagree with personal choices. It is like telling me I love sprouts when I actually don't but because some do, I am doing it wrong. Each to their own I say and if you enjoy a game that some see as ****, does it matter?

Finished about 5-6 games this year and only 1 of them was released in 2016. Still trying to finish games I bought 5 years ago!

My favourite (and only) released game of 2016 is Doom. Which I give a 8/10 any day.

My favourite game I played this year is AC: Black Flag.

Not defensive, just correcting some false information. I couldn't care less if people don't like the gameplay or whatever for the division, yes it is extremely grindy but then so is every loot based game.

Only thing that I am highly disagreeing with are the comments about the game being incredibly buggy on release day when it was actually very good, at least compared to the majority of other **** shows that we have got this year...

Read through the division thread and then go read through no man's sky, mafia 3, quantum break, dishonored 2 etc. etc. threads and tell me which one got highly praised for visuals, performance and stability and which ones got trashed for performance for mediocre graphics with crashes ;)

Nope, why would it be?

  • Stunning visuals in a great location with a great environment (imo, it is still probably the best game for visuals "overall", the amount of attention to detail is just incredible)
  • Runs great, even more so with DX 12 in the test build now
  • Stunning audio/sound effects
  • Decent story
  • It has got longevity, currently got 300+ hours and there are people with thousands of hours
  • Released in a good state i.e. not having to faff about trying to fix the game like most broken console ports released this year i.e. mafia 3, dishonored 2, quantum break, no mans sky etc.

There was a story? The one that went "Oh a virus? Shoot EVERYTHING!". Not sure there was any Tom Clancy in it but the name on the box.

Division was very pretty and actually felt pretty good to play but what an awful grind. Nothing but endless grind.

Was glad to leave it behind, got my money's worth but no GOTY.

The games this year have been **** so for me it's a case of picking the best from a bad bunch.

I'm sure if I played Doom, Shadow Warrior 2, Dishonoured 2 they would probably be my GOTY but with the VPN crackdowns I simply have to wait for sales for these titles.

As long as we all agree that No Man's Sky belongs in the **** bucket I'm happy with whatever anyone else chooses. :D

No, bugs and glitches, exploits etc aren't the only reason why I think the game is crap. It being incredibly shallow and a grind fest is why I think the game is crap. Doesn't take away from the fact the game released with lots of bugs.

Reloading animation glitch? Better add that to the list, i'm referring to the issue with One is None where the gun would lock on 1 bullet left, causing you to have to switch to another gun and back again. Hardly a trivial issue when it gets you killed in PVP.

Like I said, the proof is out there. Multiple news articles explaining what a buggy mess the game was. No need to take my word for it, google it. Not only was it bad on release, but it doesn't appear to have gotten much better, you don't need to look far to find the devs themselves admitting the game has been 'broken'.

If The Division is your GOTY fine, i'm not disagreeing with that, but to say the game was in a good state on release just simply isn't true, or we differ wildly on what the definition of good is.

As for BF4, that was a complete joke on release as well and don't even get me started on Assassins Creed Unity. :p

The Division gets my GOTY vote as well, 1500hrs and counting, and the visuals in survival is stunning :)
