Best card for 1440p 144hz monitor ?

As title suggests really I'm looking into upgrading and was wondering what the best card is for 1440p

The 1080 is out of my budget , so would have to be a 1070 , what are they like at 1440p? would it be worth going for a 1080 instead as I like to play games at max settings but also like to get maximum fps I can , mainly play fps games like rb6 siege and eventually bf1 , hence why I'd like to get 144hz monitor :)
 
1070 is fine for 1440p, i use one on 3440 x 1440 and it hits 60fps at max setting on most games.

1440p @ 144fps, you have no alternative to the 1080

EDIT- Not sure if the cpu in your sig i7 920 will bottleneck a 1080 if you are pushing for maximum frames though

I returned my 1070 as at 3440 x1440 it didn't have enough grunt

The 1080 gets 100fps most of the time...

It has enough to push ~ 60fps, so it's playable and smooth in my books.

My monitor 'only' goes to 60hz with Nvid so it suits my needs. If AMD pull something out of the bag next year then i'll re-invest in the red team for 75hz freesync.

If the OP is referring to standard 1440p ( non Ultrawide ) then he can expect higher framerates.

I agree, the 1080 is the better solution for a 144fps monitor

Meant 1080p monitor sorry, I would go for a 1080 144hz monitor if it meant I could run the games at max settings and get closer to the 144 fps :)

Yeah sorry...3440 60fps Vsync on is fine for 1070

I like to play fps games quite competitively though , I thought 144hz made a big difference to this ? Plus I do t really have the money for an ultra wide g sync monitor

It does, I use a DELL S2716DG 27" 2560x1440 TN G-Sync 144Hz monitor with my 1070, apart from a couple of dodgy ports that we've had over the past few months I couldn't be happier, I'd say this resolution is the sweet spot for the 1070 :).
 
Below is a reply a posted a few months back, & that was in response to a 60HZ monitor. 4 months later and nothing has changed, other than maybe pascal Titan.....

The only single card solution that can run games at 1440p with a minimum 60fps, in most games, is the 1080.

There are a few like 980/1070 that can average 60fps, and more that can max 60fps. Of course some games are better than others.

If you have a freesync/g-sync monitor you might be happy with dropping below 60fps, but then you're adding to the cost.

So your only choices are..
1080
Lesser card + freesyc/gsync
Lesser card + screen tearing
SLI/Crossfire

Exactly the same setup and same experience, they're a great pairing :)
 
i would personally go 1080p 144hz gsync especially if you play mostly fps games but then again high resolution dosnt bother me to much, i would rather be able to play everything maxed out at good frames and also be able to play games without upgrading every year or so! once you go 1440p you more than likely will never be able to go back to 1080p so you will have to upgrade your gpu much more often to chase the magic 60+fps.

A 1070 at 144hz 1080p gsync will last you YEARS and you wouldnt have to upgrade for a looooooong time :)

I think I'm looking at going down this route tbh :) .. the acer predator 27" 1080 144hz screen has caught my eye

thats what ive just bought ( well the wife bought it for me, its an early xmas prezzie :) ) and i LOVE it! its way better than my previous 60hz asus 1080p ips monitor, picture quality is great and it needs hardly any tweaking to get it perfect, infact it looks good to my eyes straight out the box, colours are great on it and contrast is also excellent.

this is also my first gsync monitor and gaming on it is a joy, its soooooo smooth especially playing fps games :)
