Is there a limit to taking advantage of offers when eating out?

I find this whole thread bizarre. The restaurant are offering to sell you something at x price and you are choosing to accept. There is no such thing as taking the **** in a business agreement like this. The restaurant are making more money than they would be if you didn't go in any case.

That isn't the point of the OP, he does it repeatedly and will even walk in with a few minutes to spare before the deal ends.

I have no problem with it.

Exactly, it's not just a simple case of taking advantage of the odd offer, I as a rule only eat out on offers, when you go to the same place every other week on a two for one night, and only drink water, trust me, you do after while start to wonder if your taking the pee, I've definitely out stayed my welcome in a few places doing it, you can just feel the role-eyes when ordering, the place I went to on said night was a greek restaurant run by the family so they often have family members working as the waitresses etc, and they tend to have more of a vested interested in the welfare of the buiness.

I also work in a restaurant myself (family run), and trust me, restaurateurs do have an opinion on people that do this, my bosses wife for example, I remember in the summer just gone we had a night with a lot of Indian customers, now we tend to find that they like to get their moneys worth, all of them asked for just tap water, I tell you, she (the bosses wife) moaned about it all night!!, it was as if we gave the food out for free or something! So being aware of comments from management like this probably makes me more aware of it when eating out, for you guys that don't care good on you, ignorance is bliss! :p (joke of course ;))

The markup on food is ridiculous anyway, so even with the offers they still make money. Plus promotions perpetuate a populated place for prodigal paying punters.

"you better order quickly if you want that offer", with me looking at my watch...

What time were you there. Having worked in a popular little restaurant, Im pretty sure thats bad service to imply you've done anything wrong as you are a guest but then tips were also a big part of the pay there so its in their own interests to be accommodating.
Nothing worse for a company then a lack of customers with staff doing nothing, unless the place is packed theres no reason not to be very happy you are there to give business

even with the offers they still make money
yep, they got all this on bulk. What they really want is a ton of people so all the bills, rent, tax is reduced as a percentage. The actual food wont be a factor holding back profits and drinks are stupidly profitable, its like liquid gold to them how much they make off just plain coke.
The place I worked, the owner got the whole sea front in his pocket and his car reg before nameplates were often custom like now was ER1  He did so well from just easy food like steaks and a good reputation

I really do try to eat out as cheaply as possible, I will use locals card if accepted, taste card trails, two for one offers etc, I'm just wondering to do you think it's wrong to take advantage of these offers all the time?

Last night for example I went into a restaurant that said "lunchtime deal (12-5pm) £7.95 for a starter and a main", me and the GF sat down at 4.30pm and they tried to push the evening menu on use at £11.95 for starter and a main, when I brought this to the waitresses attention she seemed quite disgruntled and reluctantly brought us the lunchtime menu and said "you better order quickly if you want that offer", with me looking at my watch...

It probably doesn't help that I and my GF tend to just drink water out either as I find the drinks prices in most places to be extortionate, although I know that's were they make up a good bit of their profits.

Anyway, just recently I've started to think maybe I'm taking the pee a little, would you feel comfortable regularly eating out in the same restaurant on a two for one day never paying full price?

Do you live up north?

What if you go for a "all you can eat" place, cut a hole in your stomach so the food just falls on the floor like the scene in Ghostbusters, so you can just keep on eating and eating?

I don't remember who it was but I heard about one of England rugby players getting asked to leave an all you can Chinese buffet because he was eating so much the restaurant was losing money.

absolutely

just tip the waiting staff well

it is the choice of the business to give you those offers I don't see much harm in taking advantage of them

I couldn't give a crap, whether that be the number of times you use the offer or what time you order. If it states 5pm, then it shouldn't matter if you ordered 5 minutes before.

Like what others have said in this thread, I don't think you're doing anything wrong OP.

The point of a restaurant's "offer" is to entice/incentivise you into choosing them over their competitors.

Once you're in the door and seated, they've achieved their goal, and now it's their duty to deliver on the promise which initially enticed you to go.

If they try to convince you to pay more by offering a different deal once you're in, and you're not tempted enough, then it's their problem (not yours) that their sales pitch wasn't appealing enough. But for staff to give you attitude just for expecting what was initially offered is wrong.

Also, whether you are a customer who keeps coming back regularly expecting the same deal, or if one week it's John & Kelly expecting that deal then the next week it's Brian & Mandy expecting that deal, it makes no odds. A paying customer is a paying customer and it makes no difference to the restaurant, so long as the bill gets paid.

Plus, if you keep coming back, it means you enjoyed their restaurant and therefore you're more likely to bring friends with you next time. These friends might be more willing to succomb to the "evening meal sales pitch", you never know, so really it's a bit stupid to ever make the customer feel negative during any part of their visit.

That being said, if I was running the restaurant, I wouldn't be thrilled about it, but I'd acknowledge that it's on me to adjust my marketing/sales strategy if I want to make more money.

Decent places wouldn't issue vouchers. ;)

As already stated, even when discounted - the profit margins are quite high still. I would thought there would be stipulations with the vouchers though, like non-peak days/times. Weekends, bank holidays, etc are always going to be the most popular time for a restaurant.
