I'm in a bit tricky position where I got to choose which Z170 mobo to get.

I'm looking at the MSI Gaming Pro Carbon or the Asus Pro Gaming.

They seem very similar in what they offer, and are in my upper price range (£150 max) for the motherboard.
Both have been getting quite good reviews from users on various sites so I thought I will ask here for a bit more advice.

I have built up two systems using the Asus Z170 Pro gamer recently and both have the same problem of not holding XMP oc. After every cold boot the OC is lost and defaults have to be set. After a bit of searching I got the impression a lot of people were having the same problem whiles other we're not. I think it came down to the boards only liking certain types of RAM.
Looking back if I'd have known of this issue I would not have recommended theses boards. I did so cause I had built a couple of machines using the Pro Gamer Z97 and no issues were had.
So in my opinion if I were to choose between MSI and the Asus I think I would choose MSI. Having said that I only know of one person using a MSI board, I personally have never used, nor built any machine with one but the one person I know who has loves it.

Defiantly read up on both before deciding.

I'm going between a 6600K and a 6700K. I've mainly been looking into this two cards as they got plenty of usb-ports and in general seems pretty good. The reviews on both OC and other places (from buyers) have been good.

I dont want to go much above £150 for the motherboard, but I've looked a bit at the GA-Z170X-Ultra Gaming Intel Z170 (Socket 1151) DDR4 ATX Motherboard, which at present is £149.99.

When will the new chipset be out? I'm planning to order in end of the month, or possible delay a bit until just before Christmas (nice little Christmaspresent to myself)

It should be sometime early January according to the news sites.

Ultra gaming is a good board with positive reviews.

ASUS Pro Gamer is another I liked last chipset and this chipset version seems ok.

Stulid, I did get an idea during my nightshift. The Gigabyte Gaming 7 card you linked to earlier. Even though it costs £200, if I go with the 6600K instead of the 6700K i will save about £100 on the CPU, which I could use on the motherboard...
And I should be able to OC the 6600K quite well according to what I've understood from people in the forum. And with an Alpenfohn Matterhorn the temperature should be quite well too.

The Asus Maximus seems to be having quite good reviews and popularity too though... Damn decisions to make at times lol..

I wouldn't downgrade your cpu for a better motherboard, £200 for a mainstream board is outrageous.
