How much is too much (Alcohol)

I just had a week off the sauce... by the end of it I felt mentally 'fresh' and didn't even fancy indulging on Friday after work drinks... even though that was my initial intention. Clearly not great for you to drink most days, physically or perhaps otherwise.

That said I did have a few yesterday :p

I've had over a year off the sauce. First couple of weeks were rough, but now I don't miss it.

That sounds like quite a lot to be drinking in one week.

You say that it's partly out of boredom. Why don't you swap the drinking habit, and associated cost, with something that will take your boredom away?

An average cheap bottle of whisky/rum will set you back £10 minimum a week plus with coke, more like £15. That's potentially £60 a week. Why not (if not already) get a gym membership and go there in the evenings instead? You'll see your dad bod dissapear plus you'l save money!

I think the forum has been taken over by generation *********,

a bottle a week is fine, I dont drink that much I maybe do a bottle of single malt every fortnight, depending on my mood.

your fine, come back when you wake up in the morning and your reaching for a Carlsberg Special.

as regards feeling rubbish the morning after drinking (red wine) ,i sort of get a second buzz instead after a few coffees , not helping me cut down (not that i realy want to)

The NHS guidelines are no more than a max of 14 units in a week.

A quick Google seems to suggest that 70cl's of Vodka contains 26 units.

I would suggest cutting down.

^^^^^14 units a week! :D

I do 20+ every night! Bloody light weights :p

I would rather drink the same amount every night than binge at the weekend, as that can be more detrimental to your health in the long term. :(

Drinking every night is not a problem if wake feeling ok, my be just a few tadpoles floating in the eyes, :p but get on with you day to day job and routines.

My cousin is in a dark place with drink, she drinks a bottle of vodka a day!

She is known to be rotten drunk at 11am! To me that's just a nope on so many levels.

Of course, drinking 20+ units every night is fine! ... Best of luck in your liver cirrhosis goals.

What ridiculous advice to offer.

Damn bro

I would say I have a bit of a problem with alcohol, but 20 units starts getting me into blackout mode :S

If your not joking and you genuinely think that's ok, then that's pretty shocking.

Quite.

After 20+ units you must still be over the drink drive limit in the morning?

Nope when I went to the alcoholic advise centre at 9 am in the morning, I had smashed the night before hard with my mates had about 14 pints and up till 2am. I was breathalyzed when I arrived and I was under the DD limit. :D

That's >10 pints a day  that's not far off a bottle of vodka is it? Unless you're saying she drinks a litre a day...

We not sure on how much she drinks, her mum died about 2 years ago from cancer and her dad is dying now of prostrate cancer.

Then her brother got smashed up in a car accident, which I mentioned on the this time and month thread.

It one of them WTF can you do? She does need to get her **** together though.

My point was that, if you're drinking 20+ units a day then you're probably not far off what she's drinking.

Why do you drink so much? Has it just developed over time?

a lot of seriously alcohol dependant people on here - masked behind typical 'im fine' posts and to 'man up' comments.

Interesting.

Don't think liver disease cares about comments, keep drinking heavily, its gonna happen, simple really, but if ignorance is bliss to you then, go ahead.

It depends on what you drink, I cannot for life of me drink anything in that quantity apart from Guinness. Anything else just takes me out as you say "Blackout gear"

All I can drink is a good brandy and Guinness everything else just kills me. :(

I have said before I never drank for years when I was young, 6 buds and I was pasted, so am just playing catch up now! :D

Ha! As a South African, all I can say is you're level 1.

Make the same thread again when you're level 5.

I used to love using the trains in Cape Town.

Every second advert you saw going along was for beer and the ones in between were for reasons not to drink.

almost certainly not ignorance, but a defence mechanism. They know its bad, they might even want to stop but they cant.
