I like to play fps games quite competitively though , I thought 144hz made a big difference to this ? Plus I do t really have the money for an ultra wide g sync monitor
Definitely. 60hz gaming feels pretty awful after using 120/144 hz. You really notice the difference.
wait until you get a 1440p Gsync monitor, it'll be a second eye opener![]()
The i7-920 even @4Ghz is gonna be a huge bottleneck with a 144hz monitor, you've mentioned BF1 which is incredibly CPU intensive and you'd struggle enough to maintain 60fps at it is, let alone 100-144hz.
Rainbow Six less so but no matter what way you look at it, the i7-920 is a major obstacle to a GTX1070/1080 and 144hz upgrade.
You need to look at a core upgrade before looking to play games like BF1 at 100fps+....
You already have a 290x so even if you kept that for a while you'd be fine, drop settings to medium to reach 100-144hz range.
Been looking at the dell 1440p monitor also , as it's non ultra wide will the 1070 be able to get 100fps in most titles ? Torn between that and the acer predator 1080p .. only £100 price difference and the dell is in stock
1440p is a good upgrade over 1080p, especially at 27". My wife has a 24" 1080p 144hz G sync monitor alongside my Dell S2716DG and the difference is definitely a nice upgrade and well worth the £100 extra IMO. At 27" 1080p to 1440p will be even more pronounced.
In every title I've played so far maxed out at 1440p I'm normally in the 80-100fps region, some games 120-140 no problems. With G sync smoothing things out anything over 80fps lovely. With a 6700K the 1070 will be a great high refresh 1440p system for a good while.
As title suggests really I'm looking into upgrading and was wondering what the best card is for 1440p
The 1080 is out of my budget , so would have to be a 1070 , what are they like at 1440p? would it be worth going for a 1080 instead as I like to play games at max settings but also like to get maximum fps I can , mainly play fps games like rb6 siege and eventually bf1 , hence why I'd like to get 144hz monitor![]()
Meant 1080p monitor sorry, I would go for a 1080 144hz monitor if it meant I could run the games at max settings and get closer to the 144 fps![]()
I wish I did...
