Hi guys. I changed a lot of the bulbs on my car for some not particularly expensive but not the cheapest out there from various sellers on the bay.

Most are crap and are dying/have died.

Better do it properly this time! Where's best at the moment to buy good quality LED's, around 5000k temp, GOOD longevity? Also the best makes to look for?

Cheers

I bought expensive PIAA LEDs, they died well before the cheap £5 ones I bought at the same time.

Take from that what you will. More often than not heat is the cause, but the PIAAs were heatsinked and still failed very quickly.

I say, save your money and buy cheap ones, you'll be able to replace them 10x over for the cost of some of the expensive ones.

I'm tempted to get actual bulbs rather than LED's, I don't know how good Philips bluevision/whitevision 501's are for example and I need some Festoon 269's for the interior, not many available which are just "white" bulbs.

I have Cree rip off sidelights at the front which seem to be OK but the cheaper numberplate light bulbs and interior Festoon's are flashing like mad at the moment. Annoying. Don't really want to change them all every month :)

I got my indicator bulbs from Weislicht Spektrum (Canada). They are not cheap, but I wanted the best for the money, and these were it, with lifetime warranty. Looking back, eyes did water slightly. But they should never fail, so there is that.

I bought cheap ones off eBay and expensive ones recommended on here and owners forums, all died, some just took a little longer to die. Longest any lasted were 4 months. So I either had terrible luck, or the XF really doesn't like LED bulbs in the number plate light. They all look like heat got to them

Cheers guys. Not been able to get on here until now. For the moment I've ordered "white" normal bulbs, "MTEC" Festoon 269's are in, no brighter than the LED's, more white than blue, but see if they last. Awaiting Philips WhiteVision 501's for the number plate bulbs, current ones are more on the blue side anyway to be fair. Don't want it too cheap and cheesy looking.

Next time I need LED's I'll try Horizon though, a few buddies also recommended the same. Ta :)

If you are on Civinfo Stormster I bought Cree head and side light LED's for my Civic from a trader on there and they are coming up to a year old now and have been fine touch wood.

The head light bulbs were pretty expensive though
