Kids Bullied

The law of averages would dictate that a number of you parents in here actually have a child that is a bully.

Just sayin' :D

How old is your child? Sorry if this has already been posted and I've missed it.

Would he have any interest in say attending an after school boxing club or something along those lines? There are a range of benefits to this, he will be healthier, in better shape, more confident, and able to handle himself if the need arises.

Was bullied heavily when I was younger. I'm not the violent type and violence solves sod all in my experiences.

The only advice I can give you is to do what my Dad did when I was getting bullied. Be there for you child. Listen to the sobs, tell them it'll be alright. Reassure them. Show them why she is better than the bullies etc.

Makes the world of difference, believe me.

I came across an excellent DVD series called Gracie Bullyproof which is Jiu Jitsu for kids, it shows you how to teach your child Jiu Jitsu so they can defend them self from bullies. I'd recommend that to any parent. I might get my friend it for his 2 kids for Christmas actually.

I'm not sure how old your son is but I've seen people at school stand up for themselves only to take a pasting outside of school by groups of people and had windows smashed at home etc by the kid, who was accompanied by 10 odd older teenagers.

In fact my next door neighbour was wrongfully accused who slashing some scrote's face with a knife, him and god knows who else kicked his front door down and forced their way into his house, punching their way through his mum to get to him!

You have to pick your battles carefully!

This was 17 years ago when I was at secondary school, kids nowadays I'm told are far worse!

Your the parent, you deal with it, dont go telling you kid just to hit them.
The problem lies with the other parents, and you not saying anything only leaves the school with a problem they wont be aware of doing anything about.

Put him in to a martial art, it'll teach him a lot, he'll make friends and in a couple years will be the kid nobody wants to mess with.

Cept for the fact he might think he knows something and Martial Arts are of absolutely no use in the real world.

how so? I mean ofc fancy pants moves are no use but the core discipline and standing your ground etc even understanding how punches telegraph. I wouldn't write it all off anyway.

Better go tell Conor McGregor he'd better not try to use his Martial Arts in the real world, or you could come join us on planet Earth

You mean then MMA?..yea..seen that go well lots of times, work a few months on the door, see how well that does ya.

I was bullied at school by this one kid, I snapped one day and gave him a bloody nose. Funnily enough the rest of my school days were bliss. Would recommend ++

Seen someone do this when I was at school - rest of the bullies mates turned around and kicked the cr@p out of him. It actually made matters worse.

I was bullied badly at school and unfortunately you can dispense all the advice in the world but it is the child being bullied that has to live with the consequences as well as work through the situation. They have to find what works for them.

My first has just started school and I know I will be fiercely protective if they get bullied, no doubt I will have to dispense some choice words to teachers at some point but sadly gone are the days you can just lay into the bully (verbally), it's a very different world these days.

Have you guys not seen TV?

Daniel Lurusso was getting bullied by this Cobra Kai Jerks, he then gets taught by Mr Miyagi and all is well. Martial arts work!

Also George Mcfly is bullied by Biff Tannen, George stood up to him and look what happened there. :)

I'm not talking about working doors with a group of 18 stone lads, I'm talking about a kid learning to defend himself at school against kids his size or a little bit bigger. Jiu Jitsu is fantastic for this, as are things like Boxing and Muay Thai, the advantage with Jiu Jitsu is that the kid is less likely to get in trouble because he won't be throwing punches and hurting anyone

Yea, unfortunately those still dont work in the real world is theirs nay fist work involved, all martial arts are practiced to counter the same movement they themselves know.

If you are going to teach a kid anything, just take them to a good boxing club.

From the movie "The Guest"

David: Those kids at school, are they bigger than you?

Luke Peterson: Yeah.

David: Then bring a knife to school. If they take it off you and beat you up, you go around their houses at night and burn them down with their families inside. What's the worst they can do?

Luke Peterson: Yeah... Umm... Okay.

:p

You are actually showing you have no idea what is taught or practised during any martial arts class. I can completely see where you are coming from about martial arts teaching to defend against them self, but you are 100% wrong if you think this applies to all martial arts out there.

Even if you have been boxing for 10 plus years, you come up against a a guy who has been training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from a legit coach for a few years, he will rag doll you around like you are nothing.

I have checked all of your replies in here and they all come from the same angle of a typical boxer who has never had to deal with the threat of a take down, a leg kick, a headkick or knees and elbows.

As someone who has spent quite literally most of my life in martial arts one way or another, ranging from karate, TKD, Muay Thai, Boxing, BJJ and wrestling, you're argument means nothing.

"it wont happen on the doors like that" No it probably wont, but being experienced in how to grapple will save you more times than it will by throwing a punch.

Anyway for the TS, Martial arts are still a good way to get your kid in to respect, self defense, discipline and most important, confidence. I would avoid the more traditional martial arts these days though in truth.
I would be looking for a Muay Thai or BJJ gym in truth if you want your son/daughter to get any of the advantages previous, but also knowing that in the event of things going from bad to worse, they are not confident in ending someones life, but to protect those around them and not end the attackers life.

Thugs keep hitting people when they are down and go for the curb stomp like scum they are. Someone with any knowledge of fighting will know when someone has had enough and not put them through more of a beating regardless of if its deserved or not.

Who ever posted we don't fight violence with violence, that is literally the first play in the adult world handbook. It's the first thing almost every country in the world does (except France) when ever it happens. It's almost the first thing that has happened with every animal or human being since time began.

Why?

It works.
