As long as the release of the new-gen makes the FK2s depreciate quicker then I'm happy

There is no market for them today apart from die head petrol heads like ourselves. I would yearn for a stripped out race inspired hatch with things like "seam welded chassis" and "blueprinted engine" in the sales brochure. Honda have lost their identity completely by trying to be like the Germans. 15 years ago if I had to choose between a MK4/5 Golf GTi or a Honda Civic Type-R it would be a non-brainer. Today would be a different story.
i dont think they're trying to be like the Germans, because the Golf R looks as boring as hell, more like they're trying to appeal to Ricers.
i dont know what's gone wrong here, but to design it looking like that is damned strange to me.

It looks brilliant. Honda are forming a new identity with the Type R's. Gone is the sleek minimalist design & concept of Type R along with the high revving N/A engines. We live in a different time now, they have been forced to move away from N/A VTEC that made them what they are and adopt turbocharging, something they said they would never do, but you can blame regulations & current fads for that.
The design simply reflects the change, it doesn't look ricer or OTT, it looks well proportioned, it is something that is different and adventurous, and makes a nice change to your bland sterile euroboxes, which people have become so accustomed to seeing. Honda lets their engineers design their cars and not play it safe and let men in suits decide everything in the boardroom, if you dare to be different you get something special. If you don't like it then theres plenty of other cars out there to choose from.
I for one am glad to see Honda trying out new things again, coming out with exciting products, it's been a long time, but they have started to find their feet again.

FK2 has only a 2 year life cycle and they want it to become a collectors item. The technology from it will be passed onto the new one.
That's where I'm coming from. Such a short lifecycle is a bit...weird. Is the current model that much of a **** that they're withdrawing it so quickly?
It's not really being 'withdrawn' as such, the current 9th generation Civic as a whole comes to the end of its 5 year life cycle next year. The 10th generation is out next year, which means the current generation CTR has to go out of production too.
The FK2 CTR came late in the life of the 9th generation, for starters the 9th generation wasn't designed with the CTR in mind and the development of the new VTEC Turbo engines took time. The 10th gen however has been designed with the CTR in mind from the get go so it will come early in the life of that generation and the powertrain from the FK2 will be carried over now that its been tested & proven in both motorsports (BTCC) and road production form.
So then that's just exceedingly poor management.
