Is the Gigabyte Z170 Gaming G1 board worth the money?

Afternoon, peeps.

I'm working on a spec list for a new build at the mo, and I'm in two minds about the mobo.

My plan at the moment is to go for Gigabyte's Gaming 7 board, but the G1 does look very attractive. Being all shiny and having nice features an all.

I can see myself using most if not all of those features in the long run, so the G1 is very attractive, but.... that's a hell of a price tag. £450 for the G1 is more than double the price of the Gaming 7, so the question boils down to... is the G1 really worth the £450 price tag?

(Hopefully Black Friday will bring the price down to something more palateable).

It has world class audio. Twin M.2 raid 0 capability. 10.sata ports and killer networks dual lan and Wi-Fi. Is it worth 200 pounds more than your other top end boards? No not imo.

Err no.

What features do you want that it offers.

Well, as kully said, the awesome audio solution, the M.2's, SATAs, and networks are things I want that the board has, although the Gaming 7 has them too (to a lesser degree).

Large number of rear panel USBs is something else I need, with the 3.1's being something I want, due to what'll be hooked up to the finished article. Wireless built in, a very stable power solution (in the G1's case, 22 phase), two pciex16 slots at x16, support for a lot of RAM, and on-board diagnostics are all things I want, amongst other things. The hybrid heat sinks will good for when I come to sort out the watercooling next year.

Like I said originally, I still plan/expect to get the Gaming 7 due to the lower price whilst still having most of the stuff the G1 has. I was just trying to gauge how people see the price of the flagship boards compared to their features (obviously looking specifically at the G1, as it's the next step up from the Gaming 7).

Next question then...

Given the features and hardware the G1 has, how much do you personally think it should cost?

TBH if you've set your heart on it and it very much sounds you have, then don't compromise. You'll only end up with second best. Personally I wish I had bought it but am so happy with my msi titanium. You should be able to pick up the board for around 400 if you scour the usual suspects. I've seen a few display models for a better price.
With the advent of z270 prices will start tumbling after Xmas so may be worth hanging on till then.
I have a z97 g1 black edition in my HTPC and it sounds awesome having swapped out the op amps.

Well, yes and no. I'd love to have it, but not at that price. Will likely stick with the Gaming 7.

Hmmmm...?
