I'm considering subscribing to Prime but will want to watch the video content it with my projector (720p) and Harman Kardon AVR255 receiver.

I was considering using my Dell Venue 11 Pro linked via HDMI to play the content but I've heard rumours that the Windows 10 app only supports 2.0 sound.

Would I just be better off getting a fire stick (or similar) or does the Windows app work OK with surround sound via HDMI?

If you have android phone you could hook that up to the projector and see if it works? You can get 30 day trial so get that and test it?

My phone is a Samsung Galaxy Alpha, which doesn't support HDMI (or MHL etc). It will do some form of wireless screen mirroring but I suspect that requires some additional hardware that I don't have access to.

Just get micro usb to HDMI adapter, theyre like 5£ nowadays, I used to use one to play stuff on my TV before I got fire tv

About to answer my own question (unless someone knows better) Amazon's list of supported devices here gives a list of devices and whether they support 5.1.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201460880

Basically: -
Windows - No.
Android - No.
IOS - No
Fire devices - Yes
Games consoles - Yes (although I gather this is a bit inconsistent various people on forums claiming to just get stereo depending on app version on PS3 and PS4)
Roku - Yes
Smart TVs - Inconsistent, depends on manufacturer. See link above.

So the most affordable options look like a Fire TV stick or a Roku Streaming Stick.

Or wait until the Fire TV 4K goes on sale for £50 in the black Friday sale. A little more expensive than the stick but much better.

Well if he's only going to use it for 720p projector I'm not sure if it's worth. I've got one and it's very fast so can definitely recommend but the stick isn't supposed to be much worse so depending on the usage and budget either of the two should be good.

Yeah 720p.

Highest resolution screen in the house is my Dell 2407WPF at 1920x1200 (but it has to be said I'm mildly irritated that my PCs wont do surround sound for Amazon Video).

We're still rocking a CRT for our main telly!

It's not like an upgrade to 4k will cost a lot if and when it becomes necessary.

Uriel grew up with Lucifer but they've kinda lost touch

See another thread:

It's surreal for me seeing Tom Ellis in stuff like this. He was the son of the minister at my parents' church. Spent the best part of a year in a bible study and discussion group with him on Sunday mornings in my early to mid teens.

Actually - I want to watch The Grand Tour. My wife wants to watch Lucifer.

I would recommend the fire stick for this. It's cheap, comes with a remote and just works. You'll need a spare usb slot or power socket though as it doesn't get enough juice through HDMI.
I would wait another 2 weeks though.. it's guaranteed to be on sale on black friday.

This did the job nicely. The wife was out on Friday so the lounge became a temporary man cave. Projector + screen, surround sound, Grand Tour, Beer + 500g rump steak. Job done. Very satisfied.
