Apple to Introduce New Macs at October 27 Event

Have Apple dropped the m7 MacBook? I can only see the m3 and m5 on their site, yet they have an m7 in the refurbished store.

Would I notice much difference between the two (5 and 7)?

Edit, I've worked it out. It's an option to upgrade to m7 when you add it to your bag.

I have to say I'm a bit late to this BUT I've got a mid 2014 15" MBP and my fiancée has been eyeing it up for a while.

After seeing the JOKE that the current lineup is in I've basically given her free use of the MBP until something better gets released.

Paultry amounts of USB C ports requiring adaptors for everything, no magsafe anymore, no card reader... I hate to say it, but this is a major step backward. The touchbar and touch ID is cool, but the rest cannot be ignored.

Releasing your flagship laptop which cant even connect to your phone. Well played! I'm waiting for the iMac with a single USB port to launch now

I can just see how this will play out in Apple stores around the world.

Customer walks in, all excited about the prospect of buying a brand new laptop

Customer: Hi there!

Apple Genius: Hello! How can I help you today?

Customer: I'd like to buy an Apple Book please.

Apple Genius: No problem, what size would you like?

Customer: The 13" please.

Apple Genius: Soo...the 12.75" version. Close enough! Not a problem, let me just fetch one from the back for you.

Taps iDevice thingy to order stock from back.

Apple Genius: That will be £200 please.

Customer: Wow! That's a bargain, you guys must be having a sale or something.

Apple Genius: It's great value isn't it?!

Customer: Sure is!

Pays by Apple Pay

Another Apple employee brings out out item from the stock room and lays it before the customer

Customer: Ughh...what's this?

Apple Genius: It's your Apple Book!

Customer: Are you having a laugh? I ordered an Apple Book.

Apple Genius: Yeah...that's what this is.

Customer: How am I supposed to connect to the internet and get all my work done using a bloody book?!

Apple Genius: Ohhh...you want an Apple Macbook?

Customer: That's what I said you idiot, an Apple Book.

Apple Genius: You mean Macbook?

Customer: Whatever, give me your best bloody professional laptop so I can get back to Starbucks and check my Facebook already.

Apple Genius: No worries madam, let me just order one from the back.

Taps away on his iDevice. Woman sighs frustrated and takes a big chug of her frappe latte

Apple Genius: Okay great! That's on it's way. So the new price will be £4,000

Woman spews mouthful of her frappe latte all over the face of the Apple employee in surprise

Customer: U wot m8?!

Apple employee wipes away the cold coffee dripping from his forehead

Apple Genius: The top of the line Pro laptop is £4,000, maam.

It's very good.

It has 4 USB-C ports

And a touchscreen so you can touch extra stuff when typing :)

Customer: Does it still have magsafe?

Apple Genius: ....

...

... No.

Customer: **** this ****, I'm getting a Chromebook. And what company has a product that's a book, and a laptop called a Macbook! You guys are tripping! Tell Tim he needs to get his **** together.

Struts out of the shop shaking her ass in a suggestive manner, taking another big gulp of her coffee.

Well bad news. Lr won't run any faster then on your current system. Doesn't matter how much ram and how fast your cpu is. Still laughable performance

What are you talking about? New computer that is 3, 4 generations down the road with faster RAM, faster SSD runs the same?

LR runs way better on my late 2012 iMac than my 2010 MBP.

Perhaps I should sell it and buy a plastic stool, may be it will be faster on that.

Assuming you have haven't copied that from somewhere , that is brilliant writing on your behalf. :o:D

^ lol!

Well contrary to the doom-mongering, I had a look in-store again and spent some time comparing the 2015 and 2016 13" models side by side (sans touch bar). I was of the view that the 2016 was noticeably slimmer, lighter and slicker, very high build quality and ultimately that I would prefer the 2016 model to the 2015 model, but I wouldn't be using it for anything intensive, which I suppose is the common bugbear (high price, you should expect 50% more performance for the cost).

The improved form isn't 'worth' the cost, but it's definitely nicer, I think (ignoring the keyboard which doesn't bother me).

I have 2013 macbook pro and compared it to the latest imac machine 2016 5k version and the performance of Lr is the same in real world use!

Go and read the countless numbers of posts complaining how poorly optimised lr is!

Ha! Thanks man :) I just came up with it, the by product of a long day out and about and a couple of Leffe's to wet my creative whistle.

It does seem like Apple are just being a parody of themselves recently. Yet I can genuinely see occurrences like this happening *facepalm*

I have a base model 2010 MBP, running SATA 2.

Save your money and grab a 2015 model then.

I've ran Lr in a Windows machine using a sata 2 drive and again same issue.

I build pc for fun and have a handful of mac devices at work and at home.

The most specced system I have is a 6 core i7 with 32gb ram. Diddnt make Lr run any faster on compared to old Apple devices...

I go as far as Apple refurb (there are none), not sure i want to get second hand.

I could go out and get a 8G stock 2015 model right now, there is one 5 mins from my house and they don't close until 8pm but i want that 16G of RAM.

How much RAM are you after m8?

But seriously, I'm gonna pick up a 2015 MBP on student discount this Thursday after work, I've decided. I'll use it for a week and if its not right, it will simply just go back. It will cost me £1,300 and I've been having a battle in my head about the 2015 vs. 2016 for a while now.

I've decided since this is my first MB and I'm not upgrading from anything, it would be silly not to go for the latest tech which is smaller, faster and has a better display.

I'm also going to pick one up for the other half who needs it more for her video editing, so we will be able to make good use and share one of these:

I got a mid-2012 15" with 16GB RAM off the MM about a year ago for a good price that I'm typing on now Raymond.

Worth keeping an eye out.

I was hoping something would be released that's desirable compare to what I have. It's nearly 2017 for crying out loud, 4.5 years later. But I'm keeping this baby for another year or two now by the looks of it :(

This is a 2012 laptop.

Plus or neutral points:
15"
16GB ram
512GB SSD
Aluminum unibody
Same retina resolution (okay maybe, slightly different gamut)
Has Magsafe
Has standard USB ports (3.0 speed)
Was a reasonable price used
Weight and size is absolutely fine
Track pad size is absolutely fine
Keyboard is grand
Has HDMI out for my TV when I want to watch keynotes or other shizzle on my real TV
Came with a proper long power cable and extras, while not cheap, weren't as stupidly expensive as the new ones

Negative:
No USB-C (Although I have no USB C devices yet, so no biggie)
Battery life isn't great at only about 4 hours when away from the wall
Err....I think that's about it.

I love being excited about new gear and wanting to desire and buy the latest and greatest, but both the iPhone 7 (non-plus version) and the Macs are just 'meh' or include legit negative concerns this year. Especially when factoring in the ludicrous price increases.
