Now, I'll admit, I left it a bit late.

Ordered some toys for my daughter who is 4 today from Disney Store on Saturday. Paid for next day so Tuesday was the delivery date.

Tracking shows an attempt at delivery was made a 19.40 yesterday. Bit of a pain as the delivery address is my work. However, no failed delivery notice card left.

Checked tracking today and failed delivery at 11.29 this morning. Office is open and we're all here and nothing.

Can't speak to MyHermes directly so used LiveChat. As it was a retail purchase MyHermes can't help and I have to ask the retailer.

On the phone to Disney Store who say they'll ask MyHermes and email me. Confirmed delivery address is correct. Not hugely convinced I'll get a response. Email received stating that the delivery will be re-attempted. No idea whether it will be today. Any time up to 8pm so do I wait in the office till 8 and miss the party.

I'm sure a slice of cake will be kept for me but that's not really the point.

The MyHermes girl that delivers has been fine up to now so don't know if it's different person for retailer, or different delivery method or just deliverer has noticed it's from Disney and decided to help themselves to some early presents.

After work go and buy replacements quickly?

Return the ones that are being posted, only real option to save your daughters tears on her birthday as Daddy didn't get her anything.

That's what I would do anyway.

Options:

-panic buy crap from a petrol station on the way home

-leave work early and purchase gifts from store

-Inform your daughter that her birthday is not until tonight*(tomorrow). She is 4 and although may be upset, will likely believe it if no big deal has been made yet.

-blame it on hermes and have her hate delivery drivers for life, perhaps turning her into some sort of postman killer

I personally would do option 2 but 3 sounds like more of a challenge. If you cant decide, flip a coin or ask yourself what difficulty you would choose when starting a new PC game.

I'm aware I'll not score high in the dad of the year contest. :)

There are presents to open so not a complete parenting failure. Least not quite anyway.

Ditching work now.

Dad: "I'm sorry but I don't have a Birthday present for you."

Child: "It's okay but............"

Alternatives purchased, wrapping commenced.

Last lad I spoke to at Disney was actually quite helpful. He apologised and confirmed Hermes were not able to deliver today. They will re-attempt tomorrow and he's given them my mobile.

I wonder, shall I give the dude some grief and pop back her to complain when he gets the hump?

However, he will know where I work and will know the location of work letter box.

About normal for MyHermes.

Ordered a every so slightly rare CD box set and it was sent via that bunch of morons. Ended up being left in a 'secure outbuilding'. We don't have any outbuildings, let alone secure ones.

So the set ended up being left behind the bins for 3 days (we were away for the weekend) and it was a wet weekend. It's trashed. Cardboard box is more paper mache and the insides is just dripping. :(

Luckily, the company had another set, their final set too, they've sent that on to me. The cardboard box is now in a plastic bag inside another plastic bag, and being sent by royal mail special delivery instead. They're going to chase MyHermes for compensation.

You could pass some comment to the driver about been three days late when he turns up...............I am sure that will make a difference.

When picking up a rental van once in the same warehouse was a MyHermes depot. There was a pallet on wheels with a cage type thing full of parcels. It easily stood 6ft high, absolutely cram packed with parcels. I watched the staff let it slowly fall out the back of the lorry and hit the floor with an almighty slam.

One of the staff even went "timmmbeeeerrrr....hurr hurr hurr"

If MyHermes is the only delivery option I order some somewhere else :( absolute disgrace of a company.

That kid looks like he ages 70 years after 3 seconds of receiving the bad news :D

OP, don't forget to post in the 'stuff i just bought' thread so strangers over the internet can judge you on your spending and parenting, cos that's what the internet is for?

I did think about it but as time is now at a premium I will have to take pics later as it's all wrapped. I'm just leaving now to pick up said child from the hell hole modern parents dump their kids during the day - creche.

My parenting skills will not take too long to pass judgement on :D

If replacements have been sourced... at least you're now ahead with your christmas shopping (if it arrives)

MyHermes are awful, I had the same problem with a game I pre-ordered well in advance from Amazon. They said they'd made delivery attempts throughout the week but they either hadn't (I was in at the time) or they didn't leave a card.
