What Keeps waking my pc?

Hi whenever i put my computer to hibernate it just turns back on after about 30 minutes. The "last Wake" command says it's an unknown source and the event viewer says the same. I'm not sure what to try now, Wake timers are disabled in power settings if you have any ideas i'd appreciate it cheers. Windows 10 Pro
 
I think I did it by elimination. Fiddled with the power saving settings, made sure there were no scheduled jobs to run and temporarily disabled windows update in case it was that. Changing the network setting was the one that finally fixed it. My next choice was going to be looking for malware in case something got past windows defender.
 
You can find out for sure what woke it up the last time by opening a command prompt as admin and typing:

powercfg -lastwake

I tried this and it was my network card. I did basically as that link suggested and set it only to allow magic packets to wake the PC (though I did it through the power management tab of the device menu, not the advanced tab - there's a simple tick box is the power tab rather than a drop-down menu).

EDIT: Oh I see that's what you meant by the last wake command. Missed that on first read. And you'd fixed just before I posted anyway. I am so helpful!! :)

My daughter's PC had an issue when it kept waking itself up, it turned out to be the mouse/keyboard that was doing it.

I had to go into the Device Manager, double click the particular device, go to power management and untick the 'Allow this device to wake the computer' option.

Thanks I'll give that a try too when i go to bed i'll put it in hibernate hopefully it will stay that way till morning haha
 
Are you able to confirm it genuinely hibernated (as opposed to connected_standby or standby) I had thought hibernate was bullet proof.
- what power modes does the computer support 'powercfg /a'
- does 'powercfg /batteryreport' confirm what sleep mode it was in.

[personally disabled connected_standby on a tablet since it was a battery drain - and computer can wake up to check emails etc. although -lastwake should reveal source. Win10 updates might cause a wake too]

-It's a desktop so no battery i'm not sure how to check that but i did a little test and put it into hibernation then disconnected power and it seemed to boot normally instead of resuming from hibernation. I followed along with this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Mz267eXGr0 and found a couple devices that may be the cause i'll test again tonight and see if it stays put this time.

which suggest checking windows media center and google updates are not the culprits (in addition to windows update)
as it says, does it always wake at same time (check scheduled tasks to see if something matches that time) ?

this does not sound normal - the purpose of hibernate/hybrid is to keep state during a power off - not for computer to reboot

Thanks Their are various items that repeat every hour so i changed them to at login and turned of the repeats will let you know how it goes.
 
Ive just had the same prob with a new win10 install, it was waking up out of sleep mode every few mins. It was the network adaptor that was waking it up, so I have enabled the "Onlly allow a magic packet to wake the computer" on the network adaptor as I need the net adaptor to stay on when pc is asleep so my other devices can wake up my pc.

Ticking that option seen to have done the job for me anyway and my devices still wake up my pc.

Thanks i get 2 devices with that command a keyboard and mouse and i've tried to setting them to not be allowed to wake the pc but the option check box keeps resetting it won't stay unchecked
 
Ummm thats odd, I have everything unticked in the power management todo with my keyboard and mouse and they dont retick themselfs again... have a look if you have something like "wake up on USB" in the bios and disable it?

I've changed some setting's in the bios and unchecked everything again and did a restart and it seems to be sticking hopefully when i hibernate it tonight it will stay that way till morning.

Cross fingers... Its odd why the keyboard or mouse is waking it up though, because you have to press a key or move the mouse to turn on the pc, unless you have ghosts:eek:
