Racist rant or perhaps not

So now pupils have lost a good teacher who cared enough to be angry at being prevented from teaching, which will make things worse for them.

The only people who benefit are people who aren't involved and who get to feel righteous at the expense of everyone who is involved.

The issue is she completely lost it, plain and simple. It doesn't really matter that we haven't seen the previous 10 minutes of what happened, she has acted unprofessionally.

I've seen it happen to teachers, the students chip away at them in one way or another. Teachers that can lose it like this shouldn't be teaching in the first place.

I get why your saying this, but somehow i imagine facing it every.single. day. For years and years, has a somewhat grinding down effect.

You cant expect anyone to hold their cool all of the time, it just doesnt happen.

Thing is, we're looking at this through an outside perspective, ten minutes of grinding down is just the tip of an iceberg of years of trying to get the message through to no avail.

She is white and used the N word so nothing else matters, no matter how much provocation she endured, no matter what message she was trying to get across. She is now seen as racist by most people, who are unable to look beneath the surface of issues like these, and will likely never work as a teacher again as a result..

Sounds like a good outcome to me. Why waste your life trying to educate trash like that. Would imagine that half of them will be dead within 5 years anyway and the rest in prison.

I'd get out while I can and have a semblance of a normal life and job outside the ghetto.

Anyone can 'lose it'. You know what kids are like, they'll push and push until they get a reaction.

If you said anyone who is fallible shouldn't be a teacher then nobody would teach.

And 'like this'? Like what? She used a word that is regularly used by a race that another race is not allowed to utter without being racist? In all honestly she descended to their level of conversation and that was it. She'll prob lose her job but by the looks of her I don't really think she's that bothered. She's probably not letting the kids down put it that way.

I'd like a black person's filter on this thread, as it's only their opinions I'd be interested in reading... Either she is out of order or reasonable I dont know... Call me back when insults are (possibly) thrown at a well off middle class white person from a small town in Oxfordshire and I'll be able to comment as to weather they are really offensive.

I think the whole point is that they are NOT a class full of nice middle class white kids in Oxfordshire.

Middle class White kids who goof off at school will be able to catch up once they get to Oxbridge (Or Harvard in the USA)

This teachers situation is really rather different. She has a window of opportunity of only months to literally make the difference between life and death for the pupils in her care.

Unlike middle class white kids, if these kids fail to get their grades they really do run a serious risk of spending most of the rest of their lives in prison or dead!

THAT is the harsh reality.

What we (probably) have here is a lad who is goofing off and literally (And yes I am using the word in its true sense) ruining the chances for life for everybody else in the class, what is more he is being regarded (probably) as being the class hero.

Standing there day in day out watching the almost inevitable catastrophe unfold time and time again must be unbearable for any caring teacher.

I am not surprised she lost it (Though even then, She might also have been attemting to make use of shock tactics in a desperate play to get the seriousness of the message over)

What would "You" (Collectivly) do in this sort of situation?

How would "You" try to (Literally, again!) save these kids lives?

She is right of course but you can't say that in that situation. She lost her cool and what happened is history. I love the N word as much as the next man but It is a powerful word which invokes a lot, maybe too much still.
I have no idea why you would want to be a teacher in a crap hole of a school.
I have no idea how Teenagers get so disrespectful that they do crap like that in class.

Sacking is fair. She shouldn't have said that at all.

What annoys me though is that if a black teacher had said that, you can guarantee this wouldn't even be a story and I very much doubt they'd have been sacked.

Context doesn't matter, say the n-word as a white person and you're out the door.

Yeah that annoys me. I say ***** all the time when I think about it, I've listened to 2pac for years and year, know most of his lyrics off by heart so naturally say ***** a lot. I also say ***** a lot among my friends, even black ones, we say quotes from the movie Friday. No one bats an eyelid as the intelligent people will know that context makes a big difference.

And of course cases like this will simply reduce the number of teachers who will be prepared to do so.

(See also, WTF would anybody want to be a Cop in DC, Ferguson, Whatever)

In the longer term, the only people who are going to suffer here are the Black Americans!

Indeed, there is some evidence that this is already happening. Violent crime within Black US communities has shot up over the last two years.

Officially the "Ferguson Effect" is denied, but really, the idea that many cops are now taking the position of "Go kill each other if that is what you want, I cant be ****ed any more" is hard to dismiss.

If the same thing happens with teachers too, then there really is no hope!

Yep can't say that if you're white, she should go to jail for it too. Black lives matter more remember.

What kind of world are we living in when a frustrated teacher can't even call a classroom of black children a bunch of punk ass *******, eh GD?

Political correctness gone mad

Teachers that can lose it like this shouldn't be teaching in the first place.

So you don't think anyone decent should be teaching then?

I'd rather have teachers that care enough to get angry and frustrated enough to "lose it" when they see students just constantly throw away opportunities, than teachers who are happy to let them get on with it because at the end of the day they get paid regardless.

Kids messing around and wasting time is exactly the reason I left teaching, obviously nowhere near as extreme as in the US, but there's only so many times you can try to help a kid who basically has no prospects other than spending their life on benefits/in prison, only for them to be back on youtube/listening to music/chucking things at other students the moment you turn your back on them to help someone else; you eventually either "lose it" or stop giving a ****.

I do agree with the OP and have sympathy for the teacher...BUT she should have chosen her words more carefully, "you're a stupid ****ing punk who's going to end up shot" would have been just as effective as using the N word, with a much lower risk of getting fired
