So my work have decided they no longer want to pay the upkeep of the coffee machines were used to have. The new option is now plain message granules, which are pretty heinous.

As far as instant coffee goes, I don't mind the Americano or Costa Alta versions they also do, but was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions??

Equipment available is a kettle, so beans are out of the question

Aeropress gets my suggestion.

I use a Hario at work, only because I'm sometimes nice and make a cuppa for a couple of us.

As above. Buy an AP, grind enough beans for your coffees each day and tell them you don't give a **** what flavoured brown water they want to drink :p

We have big bean-to-cup machines in our office but it's pretty dire. I only drink one coffee a day so I'm tempted to buy another AP to leave in my drawer at work. Then just bring a little tin of 18g of ground beans in every day. I suspect I'd feel the hit on my wallet a bit though.

I keep my Aeropress in my desk draw so this isn't an issue. Sure it gets some jealous looks :p but better than being a peasant instant coffee drinker!

Fixed that for you.

Very many years ago I had the same situation. I took a cafetiere in and bought my own ready-ground. After a few months of just me drinking the good stuff, the boss cracked and "found some budget".

I have an Aeropress and a Clever Dripper in my desk drawers, along with 2 grinders and beans from Has Bean :). No instant coffee for me!

Nescafé is mud. We drink fair trade stuff in our house - percol or cafe direct - partly for the taste, partly for the fair trade thing.

I just drink Douwe Egberts 'Pure Indulgence' at work.

Proper coffee is for home for me, work coffee is fuel. :p

Aeropress gets my vote. It makes even cheapo £3 bags of ground coffee from a supermarket taste half decent; certainly better than any instant coffee I've ever had.
