Family Car - 2 kids

Well, you have to make the sacrifice I'm afraid. I couldn't even do that in my Range Rover. But that's why I like my Alhambra so much.

Being a bit of a petrolhead (to some degree at least), I do understand why people dislike these. BUT, for the practicality it gives me, I don't care at all really. But then I can basically buy what I want as a second car.

I have a Passat Estate and it's fantastic for a family. A similar sized Audi/BMW estate would be equally as good.

he will be 2 when the next arrives. he is already front facing. but with the isofix seat we have the passenger seat is already far forward.

AFIK the babies feet are not supposed to be able to press against the seat in front.

i am 6 foot 3 btw.

The reason i ask it that my wife's mk 3 focus has my daughter behind passenger seat and there's no issues with legroom, and my son who is 2 months old is in a rear facing seat behind the driver and there's still enough leg room for me and I'm 5 foot 10. Obviously rear facing seats are bigger then front facing but I'm surprised an iconic one is any different, Fwiw I manage to fit my daughter (3 in Jan so forward facing) behind me and my son on the other side in the 911 so I can't see how a q5 which is mahoosive is a problem aren't they 5 series sized?

LOL at thread as a Q5 is huge.......
This Thread has got be a joke.

Unless the OP is something like 6.5 to 7 feet tall

I don't get it. How is a Q5 not big enough? I believe for example it's larger than the a4 estate that it shares a platform with.

remembers back to being crammed in the back of an austin metro and thinks city kids got it too damn good these days.
Am guessing the problem now days is that all the new baby seats now days are all these backward facing ones that take up all the area behind the driver/passenger seats...

For Example if you had 2 of these in the back there only little room left to put the front seats back..

I currently have an A6 Avant and that's plenty big, but with our massive Concord rear-facing seat, the front passenger has their knees in the glove box.
I'm not sure what's going to happen when number two arrives in the spring, as it makes for a rather uncomfortable front passenger ride.

OP, perhaps a Skoda Superb might be a solution considering the rear legroom is vast, meaning more space for the driver/front passenger?

If you don't want a RR then perhaps consider a van like a VW Caravelle. Those things are awesome and could be a solution to your wife's bad back?
SWB ones aren't *that* big..

My twin sister and I grew up in a 940, even family trips to Scottland/Wales we do in a V70 - it swallows us, a 37kg Old English (sometimes 2!) and luggage for a week.

I guess my point here is that the XC70 someone mentioned earlier, with its raised height, could be a good solution - decent enough performance too in a straight line.

We had a similar dilemma - two young kids and one on the way, with a 14 year old step daughter who occasionally needs a seat. The smaller ones have large car seats so rear space and decent boot was needed. I really wanted to avoid the MPV format, but without spending silly money on a prestige 4x4, or losing space in some sort of crossover, it really was our only choice.

I'd happily recommend a new or pre'15 Galaxy, with the rear row dropped the boot is humongous and the middle row can slide back to create more legroom - the older version only has Isofix on the two outside seats, whereas the new version has it on all three middle row seats (something we'll need in March!)

I've just replaced a 61 plate Ti X 2.0l diesel with a 66 plate Ti X 2.0 Ecoboost and am smitten with it, the updated version is brilliant, but that means you could get a two year old Galaxy with all the bells & whistles for a good price.

The XC70 is a good suggestion for a non Fertility Wagon, as is a Discovery.
Mercedes had a reasonable MPV that didn't look disgusting - the R class. My godfather has a rather battered but rapid R63 AMG - the rear leg room is excellent.

Also consider the Mondeo Estate and S-Max (same platform as the Galaxy).

You guys do realise isofix is not needed, you can just attach the seat with the cars seat belt or fix a base in with the seatbelt if you want to remove the carseat. Isofix makes life easier but its not the end of the world to have to do it old skool.

I have a 2 series Gran Tourer. I'ts not the best looking, but in my opinion is nicer inside than all other mpv's, especially if you get a few of the better options.
Your wife would probably like the power tailgate if she has a bad back.

BMW 3GT or 5GT...? Higher ride height, huge* boot and rear seat space?

I'll get my coat...

Huge in the 3, bizarrely the 5GT's boot is smaller!

Have a look at the Kia Sorento huge boot, lots of space, and looking at it its only its only a little bit bigger than the Q5

What you want is something with a sliding rear set of seats, it might be worth looking at something like the xtrail or tiguan. But to be honest if it ultimately leg room and boot space you need, its either the Skoda Superb or a MPV, or then a larger SUV, Q5 is based on the same platform as the A4 avant, and leg room is poor on most of those type of cars if you have a baby seat in the back.

How about having a baby seat in the front and getting the mrs to sit in the back?? 2 birds one stone etc :p

I've always thought that it's pretty good compared to other cars in its class. 981 litres with the third row of seats folded down from a quick Google. The second row also slides backwards and forwards, which may help the OP with his child seat problem.
