Hello everyone,

Just thought i'd make a general thread for Launchers? (Hope there isn't one already)

Just got a galaxy s7 and I'm looking for a launcher.

Was using the nova launcher on my s5 but just wondering what other people use?

I use nova too ATM. Before that I was using lightning launcher. It's very customizable, even more so than nova and by a big margin but it is buggy. I had a some fun figuring out how to use it (it is hard to use for a launcher!) but a particular bug drove me away and I had kinda gotten bored with customizing anyway.

I just installed the Pixel Launcher on my S6 Edge+ and liking it a lot so far. Combine it with the Pixel theme in the Samsung theme store and it's a winner.
If you install it as a system app (see youtube/google) you get the full feature set that so far is exclusive to just the Pixel phone - it supports landscape mode on the desktop too which I'm a big fan of.

can someone explain to me what the function of a launcher is?
I've done a bit of playing around with android before never really understood any chat about launchers

customisation really. I have my home screen super minimal, clock and a few buttons. Launchers provide different ways of grouping things, so Microsoft launcher has "pages", widget page which scrolls vertically, a notes page, recent contacts etc etc, and they usually change the app drawer (and some allow you to change app icons on the app drawer - buzz launcher doesnt!)

Arrow Launcher also has an iphone esque "swipe up" drawer, to quick change settings / display brightness etc.

Also, with buzz launcher I set the homescreen grid to 12x12 and have super tiny icons.

They are usually (the good ones) faster than a stock launcher and usually have some nifty features.

Got a link to that Gmac?

This will get you the apk to install Pixel Launcher as just a regular launcher.

If you want to install as a system app you need Root and involves a bit of a workaround but just search google for Install Pixel Launcher as System app and that will get you sorted.

For now all the system app installation gets you is the swipe left on the home screen for Google now (the same as holding down the home button).

But when Nougat come out you'll get Google Assistant which will be good.

If you're not keen on rooting just install as a third party launcher and you still get that Pixel feel.

Also should say I am using Samsung Good Lock as my lockscreeen, available in the Samsung app store, it works well with 3rd party launchers too and looks good.

Lock screen with slide up recent apps tray which is very useful:

Nova Launcher here.

Single screen, customised icons with swipe to open drawers and tap actions to open first item. Completely changed how I use these mobile beasts and made my phone life MUCH easier. Throw in a theme over the top (currently Pop UI, by Kxnt) and it just looks sweet for me.

Been using Nova Launcher since it was on a 10p deal a while ago, maybe a couple of years?

I will be check out the others mentioned here, purely out of curiosity.
