Was just wondering about all these crappy internet rules that are being forced on us:

Why doesn't the government use it's own internet network? The NHS has NHS net, which is a link of all clinics / hospitals, separate from the internet.

Surely all these "Terrorist threats" are just excuses to control what can / cannot be obtained?

moving to a private network is surely better than penalising a whole country and stifling innovation?

Everything was great until idiots came along and tried to be clever.

How does that help? Using their own network doesn't stop the need to see what i'm fapping to, i mean what the terrorists are plotting.

Hard to understand what you're talking about OP.

Government aren't especially worried about the browsing habits of civil servants: they want to restrict what the citizens can view. Apparently niche porn videos are causing harm: we all know domestic violence and predatory sexual behaviour didn't exist before internet access took off.

I think the OP thinks that all these new snooping powers and banning of 7 fingered midget amputee porn is being brought in because the government are worried people will be able to hack into government systems linked to the open web.
That's not the case.

How would the government using their own private internet help anything? The (alleged) reason for these new snooping powers is to seek out illegal activity, giving the government their own private internet has nothing to do with this?

They have used many reasons to add more control over the internet.

The problem for me is that they generally carpet bomb because ultimately, they want utter control without thinking of alternatives that may provide a better solution but less control.

Banning websites for not having age verification? Not something a website can really do without hampering its business, nobody wants to register their credit card online, let alone own a credit card, and even then, what's stopping little timmy from grabbing mammys card?

It's as useful as having the adult filter on mobile networks, do they still exist anymore??

So they want to prevent legal to view stuff on the net being viewed by people without verification and hold isp responsible for the banning.

This approach is not only impossibly difficult to implement, it makes workarounds perfectly legal to use and would hold no one accountable. Time to make an app to sell...

What is the governments supposed reason behind this?
The cover story, is to protect your children from porn, so it looks good to parents.
But their real reason, is to stop people from accessing "alternative" web sites like Info wars, davidicke.com, TPUC, getoutofdebtfree and pretty much any thing that can wake them up from their "ignorance to the real world" state.

Defence does, we have DII. Justice did but I can't remember what it was called though.

DII is a big steaming pile of poo. Always going down (so not married) and slow as hell. I've got a good idea, why don't we move all our stuff to MS and use Office 365 whilst still mainly using XP......

Are you sure it was Google? They do have data bases where they can compare symptoms to various illnesses

My doctor diagnosed my sciatica from Wikipedia. (Maybe not diagnosed but was browsing various things on Wikipedia before settling on sciatica and using Wiki to show me what was what)
