Need a cheap-ish xmas pressy for a keen modeller

Np, its hard to buy something for someone older who has everything he wants. Especially so when their hobbies are developed enough that they use expensive tools. At least this present gives him a new hobby which compliments his old one and is not just a novelty gift.

I think rather than kits, OP uncle is the kind of guy to make from uncut bits of wood. More of a carpenter sort of modeller than a puzzle-piecer-together.

Yep. He's an elderly retired chap who's been doing models and kits for decades so he knows his stuff. He's got a little lathe and all sorts for his hobby hence why it's so hard to buy for him.

+1 on some good quality brushes and those windsor and newton ones are excellent quality.

Does he already have an airbrush? If not it would defiantly be worth looking into although your looking well above your budget.

Other options would be a kit itself or some paints (check what brand he uses)
