I currently have the above motherboard with a sandybridge processor and I am looking to upgrade to a ivy bridge.

I have the latest bios revsion for the sandybridge I5 2500k 23.7 but I noticed to use an ivy bridge you need to update the bios.

I am thinking of a I7 3770k

Now my question is do I flash with the sandybridge chip still in and then let it update and then switch cpu or do i wait until the new cpu is installed to update the bios ?

The bios info states you cannot go back ! but i am not sure if it would post with old 23.7 bios with the ivy bridge and not the 25.8 ivy bridge bios ?

I reckon it would be install bios with sandybridge in and then power down upgrade cpu then we should be good but does anyone have any advice ?

hope this make sense !

Upgrade bios with sandy bridge.

Boot with sandy bridge to make sure you haven't bricked it and that it says it's on the new bios.

Swap CPU.

Be very careful and do not update the bios using live update. MSI has by far the highest chance of bricking the board when updating the bios. Use the tool in the bios but even that can brick the board. There is a tool on MSI's forum that requires you to sign up before you can download it but even that has no guarantee of complete success.
