EVGA 1080 FTW Thermal Mod made a difference

Again.

1. the new TIM will have made a massive difference
2. The mew bios reduces your temps

3. By not even using the pads on the vrm , that will have not made any difference
Surprised that my temps are so much lower changing the TIM but you are correct both those made a big difference

To get a proper idle temp game for 30mins and then let your GPU cool down to its idle temp.

To take an idle temp 5min minutes after start up is totally meaningless.

Ignore the idle temperature for now I will run the PC for 1 hour while I'm working and take the desktop temerature again... my in game temerature is still between 20 to 10c lower than it was before the new bios and re-applying the TIM

So where did you actually put the pads?
My card is EVGA 1080 FTW, the pads that were sent by EVGA did not fully match up with the instructions provided by EVGA, The baseplate and the backplate thermal pads were slightly shorter once they had been applied to the backplate and the base plate. the VRAM thermal pads that were provided I used to make sure they covered as the manual stated.

I quote from the instructions provided
"you may choose to do one, two, or all three optional mods"

Ok I have been running the PC now for nearly 2 hours, created 8 PDF files, power poinr presentation, various emails ect

I did see the temperature increase to 22c by the time I did the screen shot 21c

Apart from that it is the idle temp.

You state "To get a proper idle temp game for 30mins and then let your GPU cool down to its idle temp.". How long you wait after finishing gaming do you wait ? 2 minutes after will probably give you a higher reading than 5 minutes later.

Some of the temps quoted in this thread are a bit odd.

I think you were being very polite saying "a bit odd". :)

He must be living on the pole ice caps and even then would run higher than what he states or there is a little E-peen photoshopping going on.

Either bad temp sensors or something is seriously a miss, If I was seeing such temps I would consider the card faulty and would be trying a temperature probe to check the real temps. Extreme low temps (unless you are using LN2) or high are a bad sign..

Is your computer set up in a shed with no heating because that's the only way you will get temps that low on air? Either that or you live in a very cold part of the planet and have no heating.

Hey what do you want me to do, this is just a screen shot and then posted to the forum, I could understand you giving me so much sh,, if I only had 1 post on the forum. FFS I'm just posting what the GPU is regeresting

Something VERY strange with these temps. My SC 1080 with Hybrid unit fitted idles at around 30 degrees and has a load temp in mid 40's. There is no chance air cooling alone performs better than that.

Not sure what you want me to do
Before doing anything to the card , my card was whisper quiet while playing BF1 was reaching 70c on the OSD, after checking with the EVGA forums I could see there was an issue with the temperature, as I had bought the card from OC and regestered the warranty with EVGA I received email regarding the thermal mods, I received teh thermal pads, carried out the BIOS update followed the instructions provided by EVGA though could only fit 2 of the mods, put the card back together, when I'm working at desktop those are the reported temperature between 19c & 21c (I have seen it increase to 23c) this is what I am seeing. In game for over 2 hours the OSD is reporting
anywhere from 50c to 60c nothing higher, I can hear the fans on the card spinning up at this termerature

On your original post your fans are already at 2000+ rpm at 49c. You mentioned the bios update sounding like a jet, and yet your own profile is more aggressive. You even use the fans at idle.

You can see at idle that the fans are spinning around 950rpm from the screen shots

I am not wanting you to do anything. I am merely telling you that there is a) either something wrong with the temp sensors on your card or b) you are playing in conditions that most of us find extremely uncomfortable <15 degrees C.
