**** The Official Chinese Phones Thread ****

I have a Redmi Note 4 with the Global ROM, like the phone, but not so sure about MIUI.
Can I ask, what launcher people recommend for this phone, should I persevere with the stock MIUI launcher or not?
I was considering changing the Launcher to the basic Google one similar to what is on the Moto G.
Another question, I have installed 2 SIM cards, one UK and one Spanish SIM, but unfortunately every time I make a call I keep getting asked what SIM to use, does anyone know of a good SIM manager that remembers / assigns a SIM card for each contact, similar to the Moto G set up.

Just ordered a 32GB Mi5 from Geekbuying. Not much between the 'S' and 'non-S' to warrant the extra price from what I could see. Seems they have an offer on at the moment as postage was free so £190 all in.

I would try a custom ROM of to don't like MiUI

What ROMs are available for this phone?

I think you'll need to request a bootloader unlock.

Interesting, got something on order with Gearbest at the moment which has been shipping via their priority service (ha!).

After having 10+ days of sod all tracking updates we queried Gearbest and they were able to give some more details after tracking it via http://sky56.cn/english/track/index ... thought the link might be useful to someone else ordering from there (Yodel still just say waiting for package).

Wahey, my Redmi 3S arrived today whilst I was at work.

Got it home and fired it up, updated to MIUI 8 OTA.

Noticed that you can set the language to English (UK) but when setting the locale you can't select UK. Does this matter?

MIUI Version is MIUI Global 8.1 | Stable 8.1.1.0(MALMIDI)
Build Number is MMB29M.

Also do i need to sign up for a Mi Account?

I had mine on Singapore. I switched to CyanogenMod though.

Had mine set to France when I was on the original ROM and never saw anything that actually used that info.

There has been a nice influx of non Cynogen roms over the last month for the note 3, as much as I like it its also no good to me as several of the apps I use refuse to work on a rooted phone. Currently on the Slim 7.1 ROM which is hard to fault other than the camera driver is pants.

Exact same setup as me, that version of Stable only came through last week so you are bang up to date. I've had very little trouble with mine, just the odd occasional random reboot.

You only need a mi account if you want to download themes from their store or use their cloud services, you get 5GB for free and can backup your call log, text messages, images, videos, contacts and I think calendar; also you can use their find my phone service with a mi account and remote find/wipe. I've used it in the past but have signed out and not using it at the moment.

The battery life is fantastic, but MIUI can be very aggressive in its power management, you might want to make some apps autostart, I have had some issues getting some apps to update and the chronus widget hasn't been updating, moved these apps to autostart and they have all started to behave.

Nillkin frosted case on mine (black case on gold mobile), looks OK and gives me access to all the ports and buttons, protects it well enough too as mine hasn't got a scratch on it...

Everything touch wood with mine is working perfectly. The only thing I had to do was manually input my carrier APN settings as it didn't pick them up automatically.

It had Play Store installed already so i've signed into my Google account so my Gmail, Calendar, Keep, Photos etc all sync so not sure i'll bother with the Mi Account.

Will check out the Nillkin case and screen protector, think i'll want something to protect it from the daily bumps and scratches!

Quite like MIUI though, works fine for me, looks nice, can't complain!

What courier delivered your phone? Due to estimated delivery date I've picked my home address but still not sure if I'll be off work on holiday then or not and not sure if they'll attempt a re-delivery or leave with neighbour.

It came via normal post to the best of my knowledge, Royal Mail.

Pretty sure it should have been signed for though as I paid for registered airmail. It was left next door with my neighbour and the postie basically scribbled on the envelope of one of my other letters that he posted to me that he had left a parcel with next door!

Oh well, i've got it so that is all that matters!

So I've owned me Le Max 2 for a week now, here's a short summary of my thoughts (upgraded from HTC One Max)

-Screen is amazing. 1440p offers noticeable sharpness over 1080p, though quite subtle. Small text is very clerar
-Battery life isn't as good as the One Max, but its not far behind and still gets me through a whole day. Full charge only takes like 45 mins
-Phone is quite a lot faster than my One Max (SD 600 vs 820). I get 60fps scrolling everwhere now, no hitches. A good example is zooming in/out on London in google maps.
-Google cardboard is amazing with this phone, due to the screen and SD820. Had a lot of fun
-Phone can heat up a lot with some of the VR demos, and I assume 3D games will make the phone heat up a bit. This is strange since I've never had a phone that felt warm/hot before
-Cameras are good but low light isn't great. Front cam has fairly narrow FOV compared to One Max
-Having no 3.5mm jack definitely sucks, but I have a tiny bluetooth adapter for my Shure SE315

I haven't used the stock ROM, only CM13. The CM13 rom runs flawlessly with just the IR blaster missing. There's a CM14 rom in development

Overall I am very happy with this phone for 220GBP. I don't think anything comes close for this price

Bought a Mi5 from geekbuying
dispatched on 19-11
was in Singapore on 22-11

last event is dispatched to overseas (UK , Royal Mail) 24-11

Should be within the UK in about 1-2 days right?

Arrived today, the postman left it in the meter cupboard. :D £193 all in

MIUI ver is 7.2.8 Global - Stable

It already has PlayStore installed.

Do I need to unlock the bootloader to put MIUI 8 Global Stable ROM V8 on it?

Or should I go straight to Cyanogenmod 14?

As far as I know if you have a genuine rom then you can just use the update function in the settings to update to miui8. If you cannot update, server errors etc. Then you've probably got a non genuine rom. Then you will need unlock the bootloader and flash a genuine global rom. I had to do this with my mi5 when I got it.
