Looking for some advice.

Built a new PC in the summer and fitted it with a RX480. The monitor I am gaming on at the moment is a Samsung Syncmaster 4:3 (1280 x 1024 ) from about about 8 years ago!

I have about 150 quid budget to get a new monitor. There are a couple of 24" freesync monitors in the price range from Viewsonic, IIyama and AOC.

What do you guys think?

Be wary of a cheap TN panel unless you know what you're getting... 6-bit colour accuracy can be a nasty surprise.

The 24" for that sort of budget I'd consider would be this Samsung, because it has a VA panel rather than TN. It also has a curve, which imho is pointless at 24" and may be more annoying than enjoyable.

Personally I'd abandon the quest for freesync and find a few more quid to pick up a Dell with an IPS panel, because I've never had a problem with Dell screens ever. Eight flawless monitors from them over ten years :) Your 480 seems likely to drive everything at 60 fps at 1080p anyway...

(Your current screen is actually 5:4, just to make you even less happy with it ;) )

I'm in a similar position so also interested in this thread, the dell does look pretty nice.
8ms response time, no freesync.

There is the Samsung S24F356 which is a 24" 1080p Freesync PLS panel that is around £130 currently.

Spent all night looking at the options posed but I heard some questionable things about blurring with the Samsung curved model.

It might be 10 years old but my current screen is 75hz and 4ms so it seems like a backward step going to 60hz and 5ms. The AOC is 75hz and 1ms and has had some fairly good reviews for a TN. I am plumbing for that at the moment, unless you can make me change my mind!

Ok update...

I have seen the lg 23mp68vq-p which is a IPS with 75mhz and freesync. Now there are only 2 things putting me off this, one is that it is 23" not 24" so I will be losing a bit of height on my current 5:4 19" monitor.

The second is that it has a 5ms response. My 10 year old TN has a 4ms response so this feels like a backward step. However I am really interested in the better colours I can expect from an IPS.

What would you do?

I use a Dell 2412 which has 8ms, and I really don't find there to be a problem with it for casual gaming. Seriously doubt you'll see the difference in going 4-5 :)

I think I will go for the LG at £120.00 it is cheap enough to move on again in a year of two if it doesn't cut it.

Benny144 - are you still reading this thread? if so what are you going for?
