Hi guys,

Long time since I've been on here, but I'm looking to replace my current 63 plate m135i. The new car must be:

At least on par with the m135i in the speed stakes. Able to handle doing 15k per year. Budget from what I can work out will be around £40-50k tops. I'm looking to PCP the car and have 10k to put down and have budgeted £600pcm.

Contenders so far:
F80 M3
Porsche Cayman S
Porsche Boxster S
Jaguar F type V6 S

I have no great need for a big boot and 4 seats, but like the m3 so it's in there as an option. Obviously the less money the car depreciates the better. Audi's are a big no no (I don't do understeer) but I'm open to other suggestions.

So, over to the OCUK motoring members - where would your money go?

Cayman or M3 (given you make a point of saying you like it!)

Ultimately it's your car to do 15k pa in, sod what we all think, try them all and go for the one that ticks your boxes.

Well I'm waiting to hear back on the finance application, but I think I just bought this ...

Options are:

Carbon Fibre interior trim w/ Black Chro.
Seven-speed double clutch transmission.
Harman Kardon surround loudspeaker system.
Storage compartment package.
Sun protection glass.
Adaptive LED headlights.
Front armrest with sliding adjustment.
High beam assistant.
Head up display.
Speed limit display.
Reversing assist camera.

That would have been my choice too but it depends what you want from a car.

The Cayman is a better drivers tool without a doubt, the F-Type is more of an event, but the M3 will do the job of sitting on the Motorway in the rain better than either whilst still being reasonably outrageous when the time calls.

Those were my thoughts. Personally I thought the Cayman / Boxster might be a bit slow after jumping from a JB4'd, meth M135i with around 400hp.

This seems the next step up and has the looks the m135i never had.

And no, I've not driven it yet.

I never ceases to amaze me how people can make such a massive financial decision without even driving the car.

+1, I cannot think of me ever buying a car without driving it, no matter what the cost, hardly the same but when I viewed my V70 I nearly walked away, it was minging and looked a complete nail, drove it, found it had been remapped and went really well and so I bought it!

I frequently test drive all kinds of nice cars, most recently an f10 M5, Merc S Class and an M4, can't afford any of them but researching just in case..... :D

Anyway, lovely OP, enjoy it!

With them only having 4 wheels there not going interest you..

Think this one would be better for you...:D

Do you just pretend to be interested or...?

Usually wait and see if a drive is offered, it frequently is.

Drove the M4 whilst at Sytner Leicester, my truck was parked outside as I was having my statutory break and I was mooching around the showroom in my uniform, can only presume the salesman thought truck drivers are very well paid!

I don't need to pretend I'm interested, I am. My financial situation isn't but that's for me to know....

Really interesting to see they're putting down good power standard. I had a bit of sport with one in my m135i and pulled slightly on it but was shocked how fast it was. I had a replacement Pure turbo, meth, decat, big intercooler etc so was around 480hp at the time. I expected to come past it pretty easily but not a bit of it!

Colour is a bit marmite I guess but I love the combination of the purple silk and silver interior.

The finance was approved so all I need to do now is pick it up tomorrow!
