True story...... ordered a ps4 online in the BF Sales and was due delivery by next Fri. Guy turns up at the door with a fairly large box which said fresh fruit on it and I was kind of thinking I wonder what the other half has been buying now.

Anyway he holds onto the box and gives me the signature machine and waffles about being busy. Took a brief glance at the address label and it isnt for us but someone nearby. Quickly pointed out to him (hadnt signed for the parcel at this point) and he had a right cob on - went back to the van - got the ps4 out and said something like "so are you going to sign for this one then"

For 5 minutes I didnt think much of it but then though if I'd signed for it I'm sure he would have had it and the poor neighbors would have had their fresh fruit go missing. Wierd....

Yeah, it's a well known scam. Always check the address label when receiving packages.

yep - you could tell it was a console. Sad really that that someone basically is robbing from you in front of your face - at Xmas as well when they would have known it was for someone. If he got the signature I'm sure I would have had no comeback after scoffing the fruit!

I bought a new TV about 8 years ago, I was watching the delivery status on line all day as my girlfriend at the time was home waiting for it.

Delivery status said delivered, nothing at home...

So I called the depot.. think it was Citylink... spoken to someone and told them that it was showing signed for and it was not... she said she would call the driver then call me back...

About 20 mins later my GF calls me to say a woman just arrived in a car with the TV... claiming that it was delivered to her by mistake....

How would he have known it was a PS4?

I assume the huge intake of temp. workers at this time of year helps make this scam easier. I wonder what the ratio of home-CCTV is used for pulling up couriers on their mistruths than on burglaries and similar?

You are probably like the 700th Black Friday douchebag he has had to deal with already that day.

Yeah he was an idiot and gave you the wrong box? Ok well you got the right one 30 seconds later.

Get over it and carry on with life? Report the guy thats on a crappy piecework contract.
I sometimes think people read far too much into other peoples stupid mistakes.
Not everyone else is oput to rob you. Sometimes people are just STUPID.

Had similar many moons ago with a Creative 5.1 system. Delivery day came and went, company insisted item had been delivered and signed for but signature was ineligible, although they would contact the driver. A few hours later, the doorbell went and upon answering the door, I found a nice big box on the doorstep but no sign of who had dropped it off.

Citylink tried to scam me years ago. I worked in retail and they claimed I had signed for a box and they had my signature. It was my signature, but I was in hospital. The delivery driver forged my signature and had stolen a £1500 avic x1

Says the guy with 20000 forum post count!

As above, probably a temp trying it on. The only time I've ever had a parcel go missing was at Christmas when I ordered an iPad from JL. It was myHermes though so I wouldn't be surprised if they are on the rob year round.

I can't remember what it was but I bought something once and the courier guessed at the door what it was as he had delivered loads already that week. They probably get pretty good at guessing what's in the non descript brown box.

I've NEVER had a courier expect me to sign for a parcel before handing it over. Even huge or multi item deliveries it's always been deliver first, sign after. Sounds pretty solidly like he was on the take, especially given the attitude when questioned.

that's no excuse for that attitude and you seem exactly the same sort of person as the driver, though i bet you'd be the first to have a bit cry if someone gave you the same attitude.

Last Christmas we ordered a box of meat from Musclefood, online tracking showed it had been delivered, but is wasn't. None of the neighbours had it.After kicking off at the company a neighbour rang the doorbell at 8pm that evening because the box was sitting on my doorstep in the rain, open...
The box said 'no signature needed' so I bet a few go missing. That was Parcelforce.

I was eating my lunch in a carpark in Birmingham one day and a van pulled up alongside me and the chap asked me if I'd be interested in buying a brand new TV he had in the back of his van.

Probably wanted to get rid before he went back to the depot.
