Eric Bristow

its someone who really doesn't understand how the modern world works and is still stuck in the 70's attitude wise. I don't like the way we're so quick though to grab any reason to cast these people aside. Their way of thinking will die out naturally eventually. Until that time, we have to accept that they are still about.

It's like the old soldiers who end up vilified for racist views. That's just the time they were brought up in.

Bristow talking about people being fit? Interesting.

He was a gash commentator anyway.

I'd rather society works to make people with such views feel unwelcome, than to allow their views to make the victimised feel unwelcome.

Believe it or not, it's possible to change your attitude and views on something. Or at the very least learn not to broadcast it on Twitter.

People like Bristow maybe, but I'd never make a world war 2 soldier feel unwelcome for any views they have. I'd put up with them out of respect for what they did for our country.

But it was a stupid comment from Bristow and sky really didn't have no choice but to sack him. Probably won't bother him to be honest, he still only has to walk into a pub, drink lager and throw darts with punters for two hours to pick up a grand or two. Wish I could do that.

Actually sky might not put him on camera or on commentary, but I wouldn't be surprised if he still spots for them. He is known as the best spotter in the business by far and spotting is vital for good darts coverage.

Sky are actually very good in situations like this.

The effectively finished the careers of Ron Atkinson for racism and Andy Gray and Richard Keys for sexism.

They won't risk the possible uproar if people found out he was still spotting, plus, they still have John Part and I think Keith Deller also spots when he's not destroying Adrian Lewis' career.

Slip of a comment, i'm sure he probably regrets venting his thoughts now.

Comments like these don't disappear over night, and it only has to be visible on the internet for seconds before it can go viral.

I don't understand the outrage. He said something idiotic, but why is he being strung up? Just ignore it. What ever happened to sticks and stones in this country.

If we sacked everyone who had strong views on a subject, we'd all be unemployed.

I agree. Everything has to be so PC nowadays. I never refer to women I'm talking to as 'darling' out of respect but I also don't mind women who call me 'flower' or some other platitude.

Eh?

Slight difference when you're a television personality (even if it is in the world of the most popular pub game, darts) and have put them on to a public platform for the world to see.

I'm sure plenty of people have questionable views; but keeping them to yourself, not being on television, and not having a large following on social media, and not being employed by a media corporation probably help.
