Bought an old BMW M3, ACTUALLY filled with regret

Good news, but you can't really blame the car. Blame the scrotes who tried to break into it, then blame the brain dead idiots at the dealer who can even make sure a wheel is done up properly.

agreed car not to blame, just I'm worried I'm not going to be 'feeling it' so much when I get it back, whenever the hell that may be.

2011 is old? And here's me rocking a vintage 96' Toyota...

I see no reason for this to go through your insurance, the dealer is entirely liable and it's up to them to rectify the damage and the payment of that is between them and their insurance company.

I know it's something a lot of us hate doing but you may need to be a bit more aggressive in pursing a solution, not threats or anything daft but be very clear in needing a swift answer.

I'd not really say 2011 is old, the title is a joking play on MRK's M3 thread title that's all :)

Standard BMW problem

Had similar the day after collecting my old 335i when I bought it thankfully felt the wobble and stopped in the car park at Bluewater, not when I was doing a ton plus a minute or two before...

That will soon wear off really. I kind of felt similar when I had my car's rear end repaired at the start of the year, but seeing the repair being done and documented eased my mind.

I can understand how you might feel about yours though, I don't know if BMW allow you to drop by to chat with the people doing the work, and have them show you how they are sorting it, because for me a one-to-one approach like that gives me peace of mine and I'm not left wondering if they missed something, or bodged something.

Regardless, I guess all work has a warranty, although I'm sure all will be well, and when you open up the revs with the roof down, you'll be grinning :)

I hope so dude, I hope so.

UPDATE....

First meeting with the regional director and service manager was late last week, then I was away for a long weekend in the Canaries, now back, meeting set for tomorrow afternoon, the car is allegedly now fully sorted after the regional director stepped in to the situation last week. However I'm interested to see what they plan to do about the whole root cause / faff this has been.

How did they fix the car? The bloody wheel came off. Surely the rear end is wrecked beyond economical repair.

yeah I wonder too.. and who would want a crashed/repaired car back? :| I'd be far from happy with "there we fixed it, sorry for nearly killing you mkay mate"

4-5k worth of damage on a car worth mid 20's - so it's definitely economical to repair.

I have the list of everything it needed kicking about, but roughly speaking:

new rear suspension, rear brake disc, pad, caliper, hub, 1x wheel, paintwork to rear bumper and rear quarter.

If they are replacing one wheels, hopefully they are fitting a pair of new tyres because they were presumably evenly worn before? If they are doing the suspension, presumably that is both sides and not just the one?

I'm surprised the rear bumper wouldn't have needed replacing to be honest, in my minds eye I imagined it to have been ripped off.

I highly doubt the will replace both tyres. Insurance companies won't even replace both tyres in a non fault claim. As far as they are concerned, they are putting back the damaged bits, and could not care less about wear matching the tyres!

just 'scorched' from the brake discs dragging along the ground.

Tyre is absolutely fine, no reason to replace. Re suspension, beats me, I'll find out more tomorrow.

You seem to go away a lot!

Don't accept it if you're not 100% happy with it, point out problems or panels gaps etc and refuse to take it until perfect. They should bend over backwards to help you in this situation.

I like travelling / holidays :D

agreed, I'm actually nervous about tomorrow's meeting tbh, even though I feel it should be ball in my court I know it won't feel like that when I'm there.

If they had any sense, they will be trying to bend over backwards for you. They have a duty to restore the car to its previous condition. They will also be aware of the legal action you could potentially take for their negligence (the danger they put you in, your feelings over the car, the hassle of having to have it repaired etc) so should try and throw a few freebies at you to stop this happening.

Update.

So, after all this happened on the 22nd of Sept, I finally picked up the car on the 16th December. That was some amount of time!

During it the car has been 'ready' a number of times - but each time I've gone to collect it something has not been right, be it the wheels, the paintwork, a broken headlight quite randomly, and then a failure of some sensors that caused the DSC system to just turn off and produce errors. Much fun.

So I've pottered about in the E-class for ages, which I hate, though returned good mpg compared to a V8 mind you.

So car back, with some extra work done (like front bumper resprayed to sort some stone chips, new brakes etc, full service) etc all carried out as 'good will', some work done on my X5 as 'good will' and a cracking deal if I want to buy another vehicle in the next few months. Which considering after all of this I def want shot of the M3, I might as well look into an M2 or M4 now and see what comes up.

I've loved this M3, but the last 3 months have been brutal, and having it back - I just don't love it anymore :(

Regret - yes. I wish I never bought it now.

Good that it's back, but it's a bummer the ordeal with BMW has resulted in a falling out with the car.
